Mayo may not be long for Memphis

08:07 AM ET 12.08 | Is O.J. Mayo the next young Grizzlies player to receive a long-term deal? Well, each day it's looking to be more of a long shot. The Grizzlies, if they don't end up trading Mayo, don't have to make an initial decision on the shooting guard until Oct. 31, 2011, and could let him become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2012. So far, there's been little to show this season that Mayo is as high priority a piece as once thought. After averaging 18.5 points as a rookie in 2008-09 and 17.5 last season, Mayo has seen his scoring average plummet to 12.2 this season. He's come off the bench the past nine games, averaging a measly 8.9 points.

Man it would be the stupidest thing they did since drafting Hasheem thabeet if they traded mayo he is gonna be part of one of the youngest best starting five in the NBA
PG- Mike conley
SG- Mayo (if not traded)
SF- Gay
PF- Z-Bo
C- Marc Gasol
this looks like a starting five that will be dominant for years to come if mayo is not traded

QUOTE(#4):

He just needs to be in the right system. Don't be surprised if the TWolves pry him away from the Grizzlies...

well they traded him to memphis in the first place for kevin love, it would be a complete fail on memphis part if they sent him back.

QUOTE(#8):

Nah, its not the system......its his role. He's an ideal sixth man. If any team invests big $ in him they are sillyHe has skill, but is short ajd not a good defender......Ive said for 2 years that memphis needs to upgrade their back court, tme to either piss or get off the pot

Mayo is good to average at most things on the court but great at nothing. And as you added he's a bit short to play 2 guard. Along with a slender small Mike Conly I agree they back court is just too small and soft defensively.

I'd love Mayo in L.A. but no one's takin over for Kobe for a few years. Methinks that POR with all their injuries would be a likely destination. It's a shame he's coming off the bench.

QUOTE(#16):

Why not your bulls making a run at him? You said yesterday you think you may be a competant 2 guard away from a deep finals run

I do but Ben Gordon might be better fit than Mayo. I really don't like short players (for there position) and the Bulls all ready have two in Noah and Boozer. As a Bulls fan I would rather have someone like Steve Jackson.

or they could keep the cheaper, younger (by 4 years), taller, and nearly just as productive this year rookie in Xavier Henry

QUOTE(#19):

I think he will fit in w/ the Bucks system. They're lacking a SG.

and Mayo's shooting only 40% this year...he'd be a perfect fit with the rest of the Bucks throwin up bricks this year....i kid of course, Mayo is a good player just seems to be having a majorly down year
