08:13 AM ET 12.09 | This Cliff Lee derby may all be wrapped up for the holidays. Lee, the biggest prize on this year's free-agent market, will make his decision before the end of the weekend, according to a major-league source. No team has emerged as the front-runner, the source said, but the Yankees made a strong push for Lee on Wednesday, offering him a whopping six-year contract. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told the New York Post that the offer was for more than $137.5 million but less than $150 million. The Rangers also met with Lee's agents on Wednesday, but GM Jon Daniels declined to say whether the Rangers made an offer, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Interesting deals being made and/or proposed by the Yankees and Red Sox...
... in my view, advantage to Boston thus far with Gonzalez and Crawford.

7 years should do it - Ryan will go 6 reluctantly but I don't see him going to 7.

Lee wants to play with the Yanks anyhow, he would have signed at 6 years. That extra year doesn't really doesn't affect jack, it's just extra fodder for people to talk about.

President Obama and the Republican millionaires should have invited the RedSox and Yankee owners to the meetings to discuss the current budget defecits. Perhaps they could lend the taxpayers some dollars to get out of this hole!

Well, a strong case could have been made the Red Sox were the best team in baseball on paper before they signed Crawford. Now, little question I think even if the Yankees sign Lee.

Unreal money for Crawford, Lee, and Werth and not one of them looks like they are HOFers. How much is Pujols gonna make if these guys are getting this amount?

Lee...dont be a butthead...sign anywhere BUT with the Stankees. start a new precedent and dont sign with the evil empire. you will get a lot more respect. its not every fans dream to see the best free agents sign with them every year....have some stones and stay in Texas or go to some team in contention year in year out . its not about the money. whats another 1 million a year when its already over 10 + . Your arm could help a lot of teams compete with the big spenders. put your arm on the Reds or Twins for example would be awesome. know it wont happen ..but just once i'd like to see it.

7 years is insane. It's time to build for the future, not sign old guys to ridiculous contracts. Lee has been good, but what if he breaks down? All that money for Jeter, A-Rod, Texiera is bad enough, but signing another albatross is going to bite them in the arse if they don't wise up.
