08:16 AM ET 12.09 | He is (was?) among the most natural answers to who might replace Urban Meyer, but he may not want to be in play. Football coach Dan Mullen said Wednesday afternoon he remained "absolutely" committed to Mississippi State University, even as his name was connected to one of the top jobs in the nation. "No one has contacted me," Mullen said by phone later. "My wife and I are happy at Mississippi State." When Meyer announced he was quitting as the coach at the University of Florida, Mullen, who helped the Gators win two national championships as a key Meyer assistant, immediately became the most mentioned replacement candidate on websites and talk radio shows across the nation.

Wasn't it last week that his name was bandied about for the Miami gig?

I wonder if Jimbo Fisher thought he'd be the "old man" among the big three Florida schools this quickly?

Every coach is very happy where they are - doesn't mean they're not li$tening. They could be very happy anywhere.

I've learned how to deciper politician speak.

Isn't that the truth. The adage, "If their lips are moving they're lying," applies to lawyers, politicians, and many football coaches.

I was in and out of airplanes yesterday. Began the thread and by the time I got back on it had gone nuts. You guys must have been crazy yesterday.

Frank Beamer's made a good living out of doing that. Every three or so years, some school in need of a big name coach throws his name out there, and Beamer gets a big raise and stays in Blacksburg.

No, the one that will go to 600 is the one about Florida's recruits.

FAMURATTLER, good point. What is Mullen suppose to say, that he is not happy at Mississippi State? Maybe he is very happy with his present job, but until an offer from another (major) school is made, we will never know exactly how happy he is.

Aren't a lot of the guys being talked about for both jobs under contract?
I remember the grief Rich Rod got when he left WV for Michigan.
ANY OF YOU who complained about RRod certainly now cannot possible think that the Hurricanes or the Gators should go after someone currently under contract.
Or...is is OK now that YOUR team is looking for a coach?

+1. Saw yesterday where Pat Hill at Fresno State is taking a $300 cut to help out with the school budget problem. Some have stayed put and done okay.

He'll have to concede more when they move to the MWC. The value of their TV contract in 2012 is ZERO!!

Back to the planes guys. See you later.

If Foley (UF AD) calls Mullen and offers....Mullen will be the new coach. No way no how does any coach on the upward track (and Mullen is) not go to Gainesville from Starkville.

True. Prior to marriage I was happy with every girl I dated...until I wasn't anymore. Things have a way of changing.

Dan Mullen takes the FL job and the OC from Auburn takes the Miss. St. job.

Agreed, it is a top 3 or 5 program in the country.

I have head that scenario. So you would have Nutt at Ole Miss and Malzahn at MS. State? It wouldn't get any crazier than that!

AF-terlife, that's funny and so true. My wife often ask me if I'm happy with her. I better say yes or else. You know where I'm going with this, don't you. LOL.
