08:20 AM ET 12.09 | Jeff Driskel, who recently confirmed his commitment to Florida, will take a wait-and-see approach, but another top recruit may be crossing the Gators off his list. The absence of Urban Meyer in Gainesville likely will end the school's chances with Ray Drew, who is one of the nation's top defensive lineman. He had the Gators as one of his six finalists. "They'll be out. Ray's biggest draw to Florida was Urban Meyer," Thomas County (Ga.) Central football coach Bill Shaver told USA TODAY. "His schools now are Clemson, Georgia, Auburn and LSU. At first he was hot and heavy to go to Florida, but they signed a lot of defensive linemen. But he and coach Meyer really hit it off well."

Wasn't that one of the reasons TPTB at UF talked Meyer out of his resignation last year, because they were afraid the recruits would walk?

I love it when recruits make it all about them. Florida will pull in one of the best coaching prospects in the country - whoever it is. And kids will come back or new blue-chippers will sign.
As long as Florida doesn't take 4 months to sign somebody.
Kids.. take a deep breath. Wait to see who Florida hires. And shut up.

I agree. Didn't AD Foley say the time frame for a new head coach was 2 weeks?

I'm not coming down on Urbie, but I do feel bad for last year's recruits, if they stuck with their committment because they thought he'd be there.

Although I am drinking the Kool aid and believe that Meyer had every intention to stay, I feel bad for last years recruits who were told he was staying. Even though it was true at the time, it is not true now.

Yes, UF lost quite a few, but have to wonder if Urbie's heart just wasn't in it and that translated to a couple more losses then might have been.
