Lilja not enjoying life as odd man out

08:25 AM ET 12.09 | Andreas Lilja was a nice signing when the Ducks needed help, and while he was looking for work, but that was when Anaheim was without both free-agent signings Toni Lydman and Andy Sutton. Now with a surplus of defensemen, Lilja finds himself a bystander these days and being a healthy scratch more often than playing is a situation that he's not crazy about. "Obviously, it's not a role I want," said Lilja, who has been in the lineup twice since Nov. 16. "I don't know why it got that way. To be honest, I don't have a clue. I just got to work hard at practice and wait for my chance I guess. Prove that I'm important to this team and that I need to play."

To be honest, I don't have a clue.
That might be part of your problem Lilja. Or it might be that in California it's Andreas' Fault.
Canuck eh?

That's just too good. The clue was the Wings didn't want you.

Hmm, Lebda and Lilja are both spare parts on their new teams after not taking the offers given them by the Wings this past summer. Maybe the grass isn't always greener, eh?

Leino in Philly. The one that got better.

It's so bad that they couldn't even find a pic of him in game action.

Love the Leino. What a great pickup by Holmgren.

Oh sure, there are exceptions no doubt. Ray Whitney couldn't fit into this squad either when he signed with them a few years back, and is a heck of a player for most other teams. CuJo was awesome for everyone but seemed allergic to red and white jerseys. Hossa didn't drop off either. It happens.
The Wings picked up Leino quietly while everyone was chasing that Brunsstrom kid the Stars ended up getting and have tried to dump since. They may not have kept him, but he's another example of just how good Detroit's scouting department is. Babcock just got tired of him, the way he's tiring of Hudler this year, because he wasn't playing within the system. That and he was the league's best at hitting a goalie in the chest during his time in Detroit.

Speaking of pics did you see the d-i-c-k weed from HBO in the box with Mcguire at the Leafs/Pens game last night? He was filming Crosby and wearing a helmet. Probably had a pocket protecter full of crayons too.
Canuck eh?

I'm a Ducks fan so this hurts to say, but you are pretty lame (Duck pun) to not be able to make this defensive corps. I say this after just watching back-to-backs where they lost two goal leads in the third. Brutal!

I tell ya, that Hard Knocks show has really been a boon for them Jets eh? Sure, it gave their media whoore coach all kinds of face time (though I like all his sound bites, as opposed to Ron Wilson's..other than last night's of course), but look at the other distractions its brought to the team.
-Every team has had bulletin board material all season long against the Jets
-That Mexican hoooker - I mean reporter's "harassment" concerns became nat'l news instead of being swept under the rug.
-The Brett Favre pekker pics also became nat'l news thanks to the spotlight on the jets and Favre. That lady obviously wasn't too offended, or she would have raised these concerns 2 years ago when it happened. Instead, she waited till there was a spotlight so she could make herself a household name and maybe sell some books.
-players getting hurt in practice...potentially because of hotshot attempts while on camera, like they were doing with our Mexican lady-friend.
-crippling embarassment when trash talk leads to a comeuppance like this past week's.
I would never sign my team up for this unless my organization needed the money. The Pens and caps don't, nor do they need the distractions, in my opinion (especially the Caps. The LAST thing they need is another excuse for losing big games). Why isn't Gary pushing for something like this in Phoenix? Oh yeah...nobody wants to cover a team that has no fans.

And, yet, the Jets have a 9-3 record. It isn't like they've underperformed. I usually get turned off by a lot of the bluster we are getting from the Jets and Ryan, unless the team backs it up, which the Jets have so far for the most part. And, to their credit, when they lose they don't make excuses. They deal with it like men and move on. I have to appreciate that.

Agree with Cujo P-Yew. Babs thought Leino couldn't do defence, Whitney still is a second line player type in Phoenix. But I disagree with Hossa, who seems a loner type that usually flits from team to team, looking for a fit. Seems he found one, Quinn is a different type coach than Babcock, who takes no stuff (?)
