08:16 AM ET 12.10 | As Boise State continues trying to find ways to keep its program's momentum rolling, the first phase of expanding the stadium has been approved. The [state Board of Education] Thursday voted to allow the university to start formal planning for the initial phase of the project, which would add 5,000 new stadium seats and cost between $33 million to $40 million. The university has raised $8.8 million for the project, according to documents submitted to the board. Boise State athletic officials unveiled plans in August to upgrade the stadium, its facilities and add more seats. The venue now holds 33,500.

Good for Boise. Now their stadium will be the size of Texas high school stadiums.

So at their asking price they can add 1000 seats for every 8 games they play at an AQ school. I can see why they are only adding 5,000.

So CP still has more than twice as many reasons to leave.

To me that speaks of three things:
1) Texas' obscenely high overall human population.
2) Texans' obscenely ridiculous obsession with Football in general.
3) Texas' obscene amounts of money flying around.
The state of Idaho just doesn't compare and never will. Given all their disadvantages, maybe instead of making fun of those poor people, we should be admiring their progress in the face of such steep odds. Boise State making the BCS is like a one-legged person getting the Silver Medal in the Olympic Relays.

What is obscene is that you even mention Boyzee in the same paragraph with Texas at all.

According to census statistics there are only about 100,000 fewer people in Idaho than in Nebraska. If I'm going to admire someone for doing more with less I think Nebraska makes a stronger case.

Your post speaks of one giant need for me: A sarcasm font or color or something to make it obvious when we are joking.
Why are you calling the people of Boise "those poor people?" I hear Boise is quite a nice place actually. I'm pro Boise State anyway, I just wish they'd get rid of that retina burning blue field. That is difficult to watch.

No, Idaho doesn't compare to Texas...but then Texas doesn't compare to Alaska or Mississippi. Don't get this point at all....
BSU is having a difficult time getting into the BCS because they are in the WAC which is traditionally a weak conference. I think that MWC (before everyone left) and Conference USA are stronger conferences.
And BSU penchant for wanting to rob other schools to get them to play isn't helping matters any...
No one is "making fun of those poor people" (wonder how they feel knowing how you look at them?)...and I'm not so sure admiration would be on my list of feelings about them...

Does it really matter if Boise State is expanding their stadium to 40,000? Hell they played most of their touch OOC games, on the road anyway!!

The post was half-sarcastic. But everything I said about comparing Texas to Idaho is true. Texas has high school stadiums as large some professional stadiums for the simple fact that they have ungodly amounts of people most of whom worship Football as their "second god." I've been there. I know. Texans dig Football as much as Europeans dig Soccer. Boise has a much smaller population and Football is just not as much a big deal there.

It's true Boise is PLAYING at a lot higher level than Notre Dame right now. But Boise is not on the same level for the simple fact that Notre Dame has a window to the BCSNC while Boise does not. Even as a Notre Dame fan, I can see that's patently unfair. That's why TCU and Utah have done the logical thing and jumped to BCS Conferences.

Poor People was a poorly worded way of describing them, but I honestly didn't know what else to call them. The reality is Boise State is trying everything it can within reason to play with the big boys and the big boys are blocking them. Admiration is exactly what they deserve in the face of all the obstacles they have to overcome. Teams that are already part of the "Good Ole Boy" network don't have nearly the barriers to success. That goes double for Texas.

That sounds like a lot of money to invest in only 5000 seats.

But they can't because they would never be able to fill that many seats with the low student/resident population of Boise that actually follows Football. Not to mention the disparity in living Alumni from larger schools. Then there's the money issue. Only recently has Boise started getting the same measure of money that the BCS Conferences do and that's only just now showing its fruit as evidenced by the stadium expansion.
