Can Cowher knock Garrett from Cowboys' job?

09:03 AM ET 12.11 | The Cowboys can win out, giving interim coach Jason Garrett a 7-1 record. They can stack good days, a favorite Garrett expression, as high as the eye can see. None of that assures Garrett of having the "interim" removed from his title. This is not a one-man race. The dynamics of the Cowboys' pending coaching-search game dramatically changed Thursday. Bill Cowher , a Super Bowl winner, told USA Today that "I'm open to listen to opportunities" and indicated he is willing to return to coaching after a four-year sabbatical. That scurrying sound you hear is Cowboys owner-general manager Jerry Jones going through his files to make sure he has every bit of contact information on Cowher. All bets are off in this pageant.

Would Cowher and Jones get along after 48 hours of being on the job together?

Cowher said he's willing to coach... did he say he's willing to coach in Dallas, under the control freak Jerry Jones?

No chance Cowher is going to Dallas. Cowher has integrity, is a man that stands on his own two feet and won't put up with JJ.

If Garrett doesn't get the coaching job next season it will be the biggest surprise around here since the Rangers stole Cliff Lee out from under the Yankees in July.

I'd like to see Garrett get his chance. He's intelligent, and well organized. He can even string a sentence together. A skill not common in the NFL. However if JJ can sign Cowher forget Garrett. Get it in writing, buy Garrett a ticket home and wish him well. After all where was that offense the first half of the season.

That's what I was thinking. I would like to see him come to Minnesota, it would be huge.

I agree with that. He has earned that for sure.

At this point in Cowher's career I just don't see him coaching having less control than he would have elsewhere. And there will be plenty more openings.

As has been noted several times herein, Super Bowl winning coaches (Parcells not withstanding) generally do not have the same success in their next stops.
My only issue with keeping Garrett is that he was running that putrid offense during the first half of the season. The next 4 weeks will tell the tale.

I think everyone overplays Jerrys' interference. Face facts, If you were the owner of a multi billion dollar company would you just hand over the keys to someone else. Jerry certainly likes to be in the spotlight but I doubt in the end he is any different from 30 other owners. There is only one unique franchise owner in the league, that being the city of Green Bay.

The only place I have an major issue with Jerry is on draft day.
Gotta be better there.

As a true blue Cowboy fan ... all I'll say is Cowher is not the right coach for the Cowboys and I do not want him in Dallas ...

Since our coaches departure appears imminent, we would welcome a guy like Garrett in Nashville.
