08:03 AM ET 12.14 | Losing one's dignity is at odds with losing one's shot at a top draft pick. After discussing all the positives from the victory over the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt was asked a question that many have been dying to ask: Isn't winning games at this point in the season only killing your draft positioning and your chances of getting Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck? Whisenhunt got dead serious. "I want to win football games," he said. "I think the most important thing for us to do is play to win these games."

No, Ken you'd trade some meaningless wins this year for Andrew Luck. Don't worry, no one blames you for feeling that way.

You play to win the game!!!!

Always wonder what the hell a reporter is thinking when they ask a stupid question like "Isn't winning games at this point in the season only killing your draft positioning and your chances of getting Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck?"

What's the coach supposed to say - "Oh - I forgot about that"?

Yes, the Cardinals. Condemned to perpetual mediocrity. They can't even lose right.

There's a gentlemanly way around this. Experiment. Play your backups. See what they can do in a game situation. If they surprise you and they're really good, that's a plus. If they disappoint you and you lose a game, you improve your draft position and that's a plus. Either way, nobody can say you're throwing the game just to get a good draft pick.

Bottom line is they are going to lose out the rest of the way without trying to anyway.

Do you remember a game many years ago between the Patriots and the Colts, back in Baltimore, with Brett Jones as the Colts QB?

At the time, these two teams were the worst in the league. They were playing the final game of the season, and the loser got first pick. It was funny. Everyone on the field knew that the object was to lose. Jones was throwing high lobs to the Pats defensive backs, who were batting the ball down instead of intercepting it. Then Jones would laugh.

You never know what a late season meaningless win will do. late in the 1988 season Green Bay won a game which cost them the first pick in the 89 draft. The Cowboys ended up picking first and took Troy Aikman. Green Bay picked second and took Tony Mandarich. Advantage Cowboys.

Seems like Matt Linehart has them weary of picking QB's high in the draft....

Whiz could have possibly won more games this year if he would have put Derek Anderson on the sideline much earlier in the year.
