08:16 AM ET 12.14 | Magic Johnson isn't ready to give up on his hoop dreams -- which remain sizable. "Will I own a team in the NBA? Probably so," Johnson said. "I don't have to be the majority owner, and I probably won't be, but I still want to control it." Johnson, 51, is aware of the ownership limbo with the Pistons. He said he assumed Mike Ilitch would be the next owner and spoke with him months ago. He wouldn't rule out becoming a minority owner in Detroit. As for the current Pistons, Johnson said they were a long way from the teams he faced in consecutive NBA finals in the late 1980s. "Too many individuals," Johnson said. "You have to get back to what made them great, and that's defense and rebounding. ... What we see now is a team that's soft."

The new owners' first move should be releasing Joe Dumars of his duties. The Darko #2 pick has set the Pistons back 5 years.

Majic will own the Pistons, in due time...

I would welcome his $$ and PR-loving smile. His willingness to take on mgmt or day-to-day activities concerns me.

I say bring Magic on over! Things can't get much worse. The Joe D. ride was good while it lasted, time for some new blood.

If he does not buy it now then the Pistons won't be the team he will own in the future....

I still don't understand why he's interested in sports. Given his life story he'd be a better poster child for rescuing the perishing and caring for the dying. Yes.. death is a tough thing to digest but dude we all know who you are... you already got ur passport to where the ghosties go...

WOW - Anybody see the irony? If this actually goes down then Isiah Thomas would freak - His ex BFF owning the team where he he won his titles and is still considered a hero.
