QB draft pick shocks McNabb

05:39 AM ET 05.09 | Donovan McNabb's shock, like that of so many others who watched the NFL draft, was more a result of the Eagles' decision to draft a quarterback when help seemed to be needed in other places. The Eagles and McNabb do not seem to be on the same page on everything in this matter. The team said last week that it asked McNabb to address his feelings about Kevin Kolb's selection in a written statement. The Eagles said that McNabb declined.

what a baby... he has finished 3 of the last 5 seasons on the sidelines and then he acts like this when the Eagles start thinking about the future? One more shot, then they should think about moving on when he gets hurt again by week 5..... he cried to get T.O., cried while they had him, cried to get rid of him, cried when Garcia did so well when he replaced him, and is crying again about drafting Kolb....
Philly fans should be embarrassed... as Peter King pointed out, all he had to do was make a simple statement saying 'no big deal' about the draft, and the Eagles could have moved forward, but this leads people to think that McNabb is starting to see the beginning of the end.... and the distraction will continue... and will eventually hurt this team...
Grow up McNabb!!

Sensationalized. I listened to the interview. He wasn't whining or freaking out about the pick. He doesn't care. Sports media is engineering this whole thing.
If you don't believe me, go to 610wip.com and listen to the Eskin interview.

I've never heard DMac whine. I've heard the Philly media make a big deal about things because they want him to talk.

You know why he is shocked, because they did not address their most dire need --- A WR!?!?!? Who does the person behind center (whether McNabb or Kolb) have to throw to? Westbrook?! He can't carry that team.

Sensationalization. Thats the word of the day. People knocking McNabb, seem to be ignorant to the fact that there are are at least 12 to 14 teams that would have to love him under center right now. The only reason anyone can knock him about not winning a Super Bowl yet, is because unlike an over whelming majority of the league, the Eagles and McNabb are regular contenders year after year after year.
Yes, McNabb has had a bad run the last couple years. It happens in a pass heavy offense that does little to develop or attain a true number 1 receiver, or a run game for that matter. The one year they get a #1, they get to the Superbowl and McNabb was healthy the whole time.

My goodness folks, I'm pretty sure many of the posters have just read the above truth and rumor capsule while failing to hear/ or read the actual interview. He said he was shocked but not in any maddening sense. He said that he was surprised as anyone in any team in the league would be if their team drafted someone in their positon in the first round, where first round is key. He should be dissapointed because the window may be closing on the Eagles chances and they didn't address any needs in the passing game. From what I can recall the eagles already have two experienced backups and from a future standpoint should draft a QB - but not in the first round.
McNabb has dealth with junk from the day he was drafted and although he ocassionally complains like any other pro, he really has handled himself with class. I simply don't get why this guy gets punished the way he does.

McNabb has every right to be mad. Hes not crying the media is just making a big deal out of it. The Eagles were a few plays away from the NFC title game last year and instead of adding a player who could help the team immediately they choose a system Quarterback from Houston. He wants to win now and still feels that he can be a star.

What the Eagles should have done was keep Jeff Garcia, draft a QB (Kolb) and trade McNabb for as much as they could get.
Sorry Donavan, you've had your time in the spotlight.

Donovan McNabb is a franchise-type quarterback. When he's healthy, he's in the top 5 in the league. I won't argue about this. I would take Brady, Manning and Brees over McNabb, but that's about it. Now for the big question...how many teams start a QB who actually helped his team win the Super Bowl recently? Brad Johnson's out of a job, Trent Dilfer is backing up in San Francisco, and Big Ben was HORRIBLE in the Steelers' win. That leaves Brady and Manning.
McNabb has had one playoff game in which he actually got to play with a true #1 receiver, and his defense completely let him down in that game. Yes, he threw three picks and by no means did he have a GOOD game, but if the defense steps up ONE TIME they win the game.
You don't trade franchise quarterbacks, not unless you're pretty sure his backup is a franchise quarterback too (like the Niners dropping Montana when they had Young). Jeff Garcia is a 38-year old who MIGHT have two years left. Kolb is AT LEAST two years away from starting. When you've got a guy who's among the best in the game, you HANG ON THEM!.

Eagles should let McNabb play out his contract and then look to the future with Kolb. McNabb will still be 32or 33yrs old when contract is up, so he can make his way back home to his childhood team.....DA BEARS!!!
Lets face it, Rex Grosspenis sucks, and tha bears will need someone to lead this team to tha superbowl victory they deserve.

Mcnabb should be upset. The Eagles obviously need help in other positions and when you use one of your top draft picks for a back up quarterback who will probably never start is ridiculous. Even if McNabb does get hurt this season they'll stink anyways. Mcnabb is thier only hope for a season not so stinky.

Just an FYI, those of you stating that McNabb is a baby are sorely mistaken. The only time McNabb complained publicly about anything was with the T.O. situation, and rightfully so. The Eagles organization doesn't seem to be handling things properly regarding transactions lately... they didn't even offer Garcia a contract, they just signed Feeley. Then they go and get a QB with their 1st pick in the draft... I can see maybe with a 2nd or later pick, but anyone who knows Philly, the last thing they need in their first pick was a QB. Keep in mind, I am NOT a Philly fan by any means whatsoever.... In fact, being a Giants fan, I should be welcoming Philly's inadequate job over the past few months in regards to the moves they made.

Why should McNabb be upset? It's obvious that teams need a legitimate back-up to survive in this league and he's gotton hurt the past three years.
