09:47 AM ET 12.15 | Saying he had to start somewhere, Lou Lamoriello opened a new chapter of the 2010-11 season. Yet even after launching the housecleaning by waiving Brian Rolston yesterday, Lamoriello still says his team can make the playoffs. "Are we capable of it? Absolutely. This week, without question, is an important week," Lamoriello said. His preseason powerhouse stands 29th of 30 at 8-19-2, a loser of five straight, as the Coyotes visit Newark tonight. The Devils need 70 points in the final 53 games (35-18) to reach just 88 points, the fewest ever to make the playoffs since the shootout was adopted.

uh-oh....LOTF is going to get traded!

yeah right

Because of his age when he signed the contract, waiving Rolston provides no cap relief. Unless he plans on recalling him as soon as he clears waivers so teams can pick him up at 2.5 mil rather than 5 mil on re-entry waivers, i don't see the point of waiving this dude when you could have waived Zubrus and had cap relief come with that. It would be good for the Devils only having to pay half of Rolston's salary, even if he doesn't play for NJ anymore.

oh wait...I didn't realise this was from the NY Post...I thought there may have been some veracity here

I think Shawn Rolston is Brian Horcoff's twin. That's what the Oilers should've done with Horcoff. They made him their captain instead. Unreal.

Denial - she is much more then a river

Yes fix things now, play .500 at BEST, still miss the playoffs, and lose out on a top draft pick. Sounds like things are pretty, pretty good in NJ.

Wait til Marty retires and the scramble for a goalie begins. Hell, with all that cap room Lou has, I'm sure he can go out and get himself a right good warm body to fill the void.

the housecleaning should include trading Brodeur.

Don't know but it's going to take the Devils a bit to dig out of this situation. Either that or some financial wizardry not yet invented.
