No decision on NYY manager

While speculation about who the next Yankees manager will be swirls, the club hasn't made an offer to Joe Girardi, Don Mattingly or Tony Pena. To many industry insiders that's a clear sign the Yankees haven't decided who will replace Joe Torre. Since Hank Steinbrenner and GM Brian Cashman, who will make the recommendation to ownership - possibly as soon as tomorrow - appear to agree on the same candidate, many have assumed it's Girardi.

Girardi is the better choice. Enough with nepotism in the Yankees family. Choose the better candidate.

The next manager of the New York Yankees will be..... Derek Jeter as player/manager!

The series is over and it has been since game 2. Girardi is the better manager of the 3, but I am not sure how his style will go over with a older team. I think the man is a baseball genius. After hearing him doing baseball analysis on YES, winning manager of the year, and hearing from many team mates about what a great manager he would be, I am sold. I have seen Pena manage for KC and I thought he made more then a few bone headed moves. Mattingly in my opinion is too big of a risk when you have Girardi who many other teams are interested in. Also most good managers were catchers in their MLB career and they were not great players. Not that I don't think Mattingly will be a good manager, but I think this is a tough first gig when you have only been a coach for a few years. It is going to be tough for anyone replacing a legend in this city and with these vets.

I can't decide which nickname for the new Yankees ownership I like ebtter: Troglodyte Trio or Ghidorah.

Maybe I'll toss my own out there: Cerberus

If Hank had any brains, he would pick Gerardi, who offers the best chance for the Yankees to win. What am I saying????? If Hank had any brains, he would have kept Joe Torre for two years to groom a successor. Also, he would have kept his big mouth shut and not insulted Joe Torre's competence with that remark about how his father, not Torre, did it all -- George Steinbrenner III, the same person who got handed a shipbuilding company and ran it into the ground.
Still, I am guessing Girardi because the Yankees have to win after this whole mess with Joe Torre's departure.

If the Yanks don't give it to Girardi they don't stand a chance going forward. Mattingly is way too nice and too inexperienced to lead the charge. Too much ego in their lineup to have a newbie in charge. Mattingly makes a nice nostalgia story. If he gets the nod, then it only proves that the Yankees are still looking backward. (Not that I mind, of course.)

You can't drive the bus by always looking in the rear view mirror.

I would like to see Girardi get the job, but then again I would be pretty cool to watch Don get it and fall on face and get fired mid-season cuz they're mathmatically eliminated from any playoff contention. That would be cool! Go somewhere else Joe please, or just stay in the booth until the Cubs call you when we get sick of Lou!

Our paper said the Dodgers are interested in Girardi.
