Benson's Bears future unclear

The alarm you hear is the one affixed to Cedric Benson's Bears career that he set off sometime in the last month running into another pile. Sunday the urgency arrives for him when the Lions do. It's time. Benson has nine games left to change everybody's mind, including some that already might be made up at Halas Hall. Until then, the Bears have little choice but to give Benson the football as often as possible and take the same stubborn, loyal stance they took with Rex Grossman last year.

The problem is where he was drafted, if he had been a fourth round pick, then he would be considered an average back. Too bad, it is not his fault the Bears front office keeps messing up round one. The heat should be on Angelo, not the guys ( like Grossman and Benson), they never said they were first round talent, the GM did.

Who's a better player: Train-Rex or Bust-son? Tough call, huh? I think I'd rather have Rex as my backup than Benson. Ouch. That hurts to type.

You've posted this thread all over the site. Is there something you'd like for us to do?

I agree Angelo should take the blame.Gross Wrecked-man and Cedric "I ain't goning nowhere" Benson shouldn't take all the heat. But they both have the onus on them to perform to their paychecks.

Benson sucks find a trade if you can or just plain dump him.

October 28, 2007  12:29 PM ET

WHAT A MISTAKE IT WAS TO DRAFT THIS PIECE OF SHIIIIITTT

October 28, 2007  03:24 PM ET

Trade??? I wouldn't want him on my team for free....If you have followed this guy's career from Texas you will see that he's not a locker room leader and on the contrary he was a loner, malcontent wierdo. I guess Chicago did not learn from his long holdout in his rookie year.

I bet Thomas Jones is laughing as he's reading this. Stupid Bears front-office.

this is why the Bears suck this season. amazing they got all the way to the super bowl last season.

Thomas Jones wanted out of Chicago...and take a look at his stats in NEW YORK....im laughing at that, What i'm not laughing at is how horrible the bears front office is with player relations...Jerry Angelo needs to go...and quick!

How can you compare last season and this season?

October 28, 2007  05:48 PM ET

Imagine that another running back bust for the Bears how many is that since the late great "Sweetness", tooo many to list, dont me wrong Jones was good for their system and did his job very well, but this guy Benson sucks, I lost all respect for this punk in the super bowl when he left the game early with a sore knee, I'm sorry my team made it to the super bowl the only way I'm leaving the game is on a stretcher, the dude has no heart to play, which means he shouldn't be in the league, there might be an opening in NFL Europe, or the CFL, thats if any team needs a guy with no heart and fumbles at the most crucial times or fakes an injury during the biggest game of the season, possibly the only super bowl he will have ever dressed for. The Bears should trade him for a new water boy, thats about all he's worth.

October 28, 2007  07:06 PM ET

having watched him run through everyone in college, it saddens me to see what a shell of a running back he's become. not even a running back. just a guy who stands behind the qb and falls to the ground after about 5 seconds.

Although I went to UT, I have never been a Benson fan. But....no one can say that the line or fullback has done anything to assist Benson in getting some holes to run through. The offensive line and Benson have both not performed this year. Perhaps their relationship and communication is part of the problem. Benson can be a pain in the **** to deal with and talk to and perhaps they just aren't on the same page. Either way, both have been awful.

October 28, 2007  07:22 PM ET

Oh? You mean, you think he has a future? Not in the NFL, he doesn't! Unless he makes huge strides before the end of the season. When all he can do is put his head down and run in a straight line for two or three yards per carry, it's not enough to earn him a starting job in this league. Not good enough. (DC).

October 28, 2007  07:55 PM ET

The Bears are in a tight spot. Agree w/ Chicago Longhorn; the Bears Oline CAN'T block. They are running tosses to Benson but the linemen can't get out there to block for him. They need an entire new offense next season. Starting on the offensive line, then QB, then RB, then the receiving corps. I am tired of Bernard Berrien not catching the ball. He doesn't block, he doesn't run routes, and he can't catch.

October 28, 2007  08:50 PM ET

Why is Benson still getting the ball? because Lovie is Angelo's boy and Angelo HAS to prove that he made a good pick after failures in Michael Haynes, Rex Grossman, David Terrell......

Ok... see if you can tell if I am talking about Lovie Smith or Dick Jauron.

???I refuse to make ANY adjustments not only during a game, not only at half time but for the whole season. Yup. I am stubborn and I will not change course because I believe that I am right regardless of what the facts state.???

???I will support my one dimensional, predictable, in over his head offensive coordinator no matter how bad he is or how much he kills the moral of the team. I will do the same with any player that is a total bust just to please the boss.???

???I will play "not to lose" on both sides of the ball and will follow this stupid philosophy even when we are behind in the game.???

???I will use the offense as a blunt and lifeless tool to set up field position and hope that a defensive player will save the day with a score of their own.???

I hope that the Lions win the division because Packer fans are such inbreed ****. At least some things never change!

Not claming Benson is the answer, I'm just saying the entire offense sucks. Very hard to watch. I think everyone else at the game today felt the same way. I don't know how they did what they did last year considering the offense wasn't much better. I agree, the ENTIRE offense needs to be reworked and they need a real NFL caliber O-Coordinator.
