Cuban won't trade Dirk for Kobe

Mark Cuban is always on the go, but when it comes to the Mavericks, fans should hope that he doesn't get antsy and make a play for Kobe Bryant. All indications are that the Lakers won't accept anything less than Dirk Nowitzki for Bryant. If that's the case, every conversation is a waste of time.

wasn't this reported about 3 times already? after a while its no longer "news"

October 28, 2007  10:06 AM ET

I reall do not think that Dirk is equal to Kobe.

I not think the Lebron is either.

Kobe is gonna stay unless you put up 3 playas....and not players.

That is the lo-lo and the 411 wrapped up in a PYT.

kobe brings a lot to the table, but without shaq, he's been basically the a-rod of basketball. if i were the lakers, i'd make the trade for the younger, hungrier dirk any day of the week. sure, dirk has some things he needs to work out, but who doesnt? at least dirk seems willing to work on getting better. he doesnt think like he's best. but as the mavs go, mark cuban is making the right choice.

October 28, 2007  10:54 AM ET

I really hope Kobe gets traded to Chicago. So that way, the Bulls fans can see with their own eyes that Kobe will never "be like Mike".

October 28, 2007  11:00 AM ET

He would be a fool if he didn't trade Dirk for Kobe....Dirk was a no-show during the playoffs...Kobe on a decent team will elevate that team to prominence....he is the best one-on-one player in the league right now...a great team player he aint, but still a talent...

October 28, 2007  11:04 AM ET

So I assume the deal for Kobe would be Kobe for Dirk straight up correct?? Kobe on the Mavs would be good w/ 2 PGs in Devin Harris, Jason Terry, Stackhouse, Howard, but the Mavs biggest weaknesses are underneath the goal. They have Dampier & Diop both nothings down-low. Why haven't they addressed this in the last oh say 5yrs+??

Trade Kobe to the Clippers

October 28, 2007  12:19 PM ET

It is really amazing to see that alot of opinions are that Kobe is not a superstar player.

He is and he has already proven that for all the world to see.

MJ had Pippen and a great cast of suypporting players....ALL "role" players.

The Lakers had Shaq and a few key role players.

Sure....for any team to win they need a Center that dominates....the Bulls had that and so did the rest of the champions.

Kobe can take control of the game. Take over the game. For anyone to score 82 points in a game is like amazing and they are not 7'2" and they do it.

That is greatness and I do not care if you take every shot for the team.

He may seem like a jerk at times, may throw elbows, but he takes them too.

He is totally justified with jamming the Lakers for not improving the team. Totally. They need a strong center that can get it done, they may not find one.

Would Artest help them, not unless you bring in a Kidd to go along with him.

he needs 2 more stars....to get the rest of the team to play the game and truly compete against the Suns and the Spurs....the 2 best teams in the league. They have more "complete" teams.

October 28, 2007  12:33 PM ET

Other than Dirk, who else do the Mavs have to offer the Lakers? I don't think the Lakers would make a trade for Dirk straight up anyway.

October 28, 2007  03:09 PM ET

i agree with prosleeper

October 28, 2007  04:07 PM ET

Kobe is a good player but here is another example of a team not trading their top player or players for him. If he were that great why wouldn't every team in the league be offering anything and everything to get him?

Talk about Kobe's numbers all you want compare him to MJ all day long but the reality is that teams aren't going crazy to add him to their roster because they don't think he is going to make them winners even if he can score 81 points.

Noone questions the fact that Kobe has all the tools. His problem is he doesn't "work well with others." You mentioned the comparison to Michael. There is no comparison. MJ made every one of his teammates better. Every one of .his teammates was involved in the game. MJ was a leader. The only thing Kobe wants to lead is the scoring column. He has as much of a supporting cast as Michael had, but he doesn't trust them. As a result, he'll never be a winner. Don't tell me he's been a winner before, because when the Lakers were successful, Kobe wasn't the focal point. This won't happen again because he's not willing to sacrifice any of his game for the benefit of the team. The rings he has now are all he's ever going to get. Basketball is a TEAM sport. How do you think the Pistons beat them?

October 28, 2007  04:26 PM ET

Smart. Kobe's a much better player, but he's a clubhouse cancer. Better off with Dirk "Ain't no Larry, no farking way" Nowitski.

October 28, 2007  04:49 PM ET

This has nothing to do with Kobe and Dirk. This is just two examples of teams that need more depth to win, so a straight-up star-for-star swap wouldn't help anybody. That covers Kobe for Lebron, Kobe for Shaq or Kobe for anybody other than Jordan in his prime. If Bryant can't help a team compete, there's no way that any other one star in the world can. The Lakers need to make a three-for-one or a four-for-two. They have to rebuild if they want to win without Kobe. Hey, Lakers fans....YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET ANYBODY AS GOOD AS KOBE WHEN YOU TRADE KOBE!!! DO YOU GET THAT?

October 28, 2007  04:56 PM ET

Raps4ever-
You're talking out of both sides of your mouth. You say Lakers need to make a three for one or four for two, but say the Lakers aren't going to get anybody as good as Kobe. Am I wrong?

October 28, 2007  05:30 PM ET

If this were true,

Lakers loses.
Mavs improve.

October 28, 2007  05:33 PM ET

"I really hope Kobe gets traded to Chicago. So that way, the Bulls fans can see with their own eyes that Kobe will never "be like Mike"."

how stupid are you? im pretty sure all bulls fans and basketball fans know that kobe isnt mj.

also someone said that the bulls had a dominating center in their championship years? i wouldnt say our centers were "dominating".

October 28, 2007  05:51 PM ET

Hey72

I saw that too. Now I don't seem to be able to find it. Maybe he meant Will Perdue. I'm laughing too hard to type.

October 28, 2007  05:51 PM ET

"how stupid are you? im pretty sure all bulls fans and basketball fans know that kobe isnt mj."

Hey bulls72, I'm not stupid, you snappy fool. I sarcastically said that Kobe will never be like MJ. Several reporters compared him to Michael Jordan over and over again, and that has always irked me. Now Kobe wants to wear the jersey that "His Airness" wore? Kobe isn't worthy of waxing MJ's shoes.

October 28, 2007  05:53 PM ET

The Kobe haters will continue their hatin' no matter how many more great things Kobe accomplishes. In their eyes, he just can't do good! Of course, to his millions of adoring fans, this is just a bunch of crap and means nothing to us, nor does it diminish his greatness!

If Cuban won't trade Dirk for Kobe, he's even a bigger idiot than i thought. Dirk will never bring a championship to Dallas..not even with that great cast. Do you honestly think Kobe would have let D. Wade beat them all by himself? NOT IN A MILLION YEARS AND YA'LL HATERS KNOW IT!!!!!!!
