09:15 AM ET 12.16 | Steve Yzerman is preaching patience. Yzerman said he received a call from the agent for free agent goalie Evgeni Nabokov, who this week was released from his contract with St. Petersburg in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. Yzerman said the conversation was informational only and he has no immediate plans to make changes in net, where Tampa Bay's Mike Smith and Dan Ellis entered Wednesday with the league's worst combined goals-against average (3.43) and save percentage (.872). "I'm not prepared [today] to make a change in goal," Yzerman said Wednesday.

Ummm....kay.

Let us know if that should change.

If i was Yzerman, i would try to sign Nabakov to the same kind of deal we gave Zherdev. He can't be any worse than what they've got already, but there's still imo a significant enough risk to warrant a 1 year small money deal. For what it's worth, i don't think Nabby would get discombobulated from a spin-o-rama 90 feet out. Just sayin...

"I'm not today prepared to make a change in goal," Yzerman said Wednesday.

However, tomorrow.........

Steve proves once again that he is smart-and should be steering the good ship Flames.

Why not change it, it's not like the ning goaltending could get any worse. Give it a shot.

HC I don't think it's environmentally correct to "burn leaves" anymore but we'll make a special exemption for you today.

Tomorrow of course, is a completely different story! :)

I wonder if it will have as big an impact as his "fireside" chat with Mike Greene did when he didn't make the Limpic roster?

The thought of it just about makes Seabird squirt.

Stevie is just trying to show he doesn't have to prove himself. But with almost 4 goals a game against, he won't sit still for sure.

"Yzerman talked to Nabokov's agent"

More than likely it was: "Nabokov's agent tried to talk Yzerman into giving Nabokov a chance"

Are they desparate enough to take a KHL castoff?

Obviously. As W2 said in #26, they probably had higher expectations for Mike Smith. For all their improvements this year, the Bolts' weak point remains goaltending. I have no problems with Stevie Y signing Nabokov for the rest of the year and see what it does to his team.

Tampa and everybody else thought they were getting somthing a little different when they traded Brad Richards for Mike Smith.

Once again it just shows how difficult it is to find a legit Number 1 goaltender.

December 16, 2010  01:48 PM ET

I'm sensing a trade soon.... Dwayne Roloson anyone?

Don't worry. The Flyers are writing the book on that subject.
