Why McNabb won't be Cardinals' next QB

06:47 AM ET 12.18 | The Cardinals have long been rumored to become Donovan McNabb's future employer, but there was never any basis in fact. Let's see, McNabb lives in the Valley, trains near the Cardinals complex and can sometimes be seen at a smoothie shop just down the street. So he must be the Cardinals next quarterback, right? The only problem with the story is there was never a story. Over the last two years, I've asked Cardinals officials numerous times about alleged interest in McNabb. Each time, they have dismissed it. So all of the speculation Friday is premature at best. Do the Cardinals pursue him? I would be surprised. McNabb has never played in this offensive system. There are allegations that he's not the hardest working guy in the business. He has no ties to this coaching staff, which doesn't seem to hold him in as high a regard as some fans. Maybe the Cardinals will show interest this time. They will look to bring in a veteran quarterback next season, and they will be tempted to draft one with their first selection. Maybe McNabb would be a nice bridge to the future. But again, I doubt it happens.

Yes, they are much better off with Max Hall and Red Skelton or whatever his name is than with a proven NFL vet. For sure. I don't know why they might be interested either.

Morning twins and I would book it, they want someone to mentor the young Q.B.'s.

I just don't see him as a fit. Not sure who else they'd go after or who might be a FA. They could trade for a guy that has one or two years remaining on a contract. Kolb maybe. Too bad Chilly wasted a 3rd rounder on Moss. That is really going to sting this offseason.....not having that pick to deal.

Well....it looks like we're the only 2 up....... I gotta run and get in the shower. Taking the little ones to see Santa at Macy's downtown! Want to get there early, because my 6 year old has a birthday party to go to, today as well. It'll be her second one to attend in as many days.
Have a great day.

Did Cooper finish getting that snow shoveled out of that shiny frozen carpet at U-Minn?

I have not talked to Coop in about a week. and its all clean over there across the river. they are heating the field with blowers now so its not all frozen. that's I game I would love to see. but the Bears or the Vikings...they might make me turn in my Green and Gold card.

McNabb's next job will be a couple years as the veteran backup to a good QB. Then retirement, obscurity, senility, and eventually two column inches in the sports section announcing the passing of a former NFL QB. No ring, no Hall of Fame, no adoring fans. Still, that's more than most people get.

It should be painfully obvious to everyone that in todays NFL McNabb is at least an average QB. He is the median. Half of them are worse, much worse.

But if McNabb willing to mentor young QBs?
Some of the older veterans don't like that role. Jeff Garcia and Kurt Warner, for example, couldn't stand the thought of mentoring a younger QB when they knew they could start.
I wouldn't be surprised if McNabb was part of that category. He's already lost his long-time Philadelphia job after mentoring the young.
