Pats' CB plays above Rivers' rip

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers called Ellis Hobbs the sorriest corner in the league last January, but nothing could have been further from the truth. While Asante Samuel received well-earned headlines for being the postseason touchdown maker, Hobbs was every bit his equal while the Patriots marched through January before falling one minute shy of the Super Bowl. If Samuel holds out or is traded, the Pats may turn to Hobbs as their No. 1 cornerback.

Philip better be careful in week 2, because Ellis will now be out to show him up, and i guarantee he will. and I'm a jets fan

Philip needs to shut his mouth. He has only played for one year, with future hall of famer in LT, and a great line with Gates. Put him on another team and lets see his real talents. I believe rivers is letting his emotions get the best of him. "Shut up young man, shut up"

I've got 2 words for Rivers...

Ryan Leaf

So be careful how cocky you get or you may end up coaching division 2 golf like that class act ****

only time will tell....weve seen many one hit wonders

Big words for a young QB who had one good year, and didn't make it to the Super Bowl.....

May 9, 2007  06:57 PM ET

Big T-T Baby, just mad cause the Pats beat you. Let me say this before I go any further. I like most Cali teams being from Cali and all but This dude is a little whiner, shut up and just play bell. He is a heck of a young QB, so there is no need for all the whining, though I wish they would have kept Brees. With the talent they have I believe Brees would have taken them to the Bowl and won it all. My opinion. You see what he did with a team that was largely picked to finish at the bottom of the league standings. Anyway if PHILIP's going to keep whining he might as well go on a date with Justin Timberlake and cry him a RIVERS!!!!!!!!!

who cares what rivers says. if the chargers do well this year, it will be because of the D and that's only if all the new coaches don't confuse the crap out of everybody.

May 10, 2007  09:38 AM ET

WHAAAAA, I didn't make it to the Super Bowl because we choked against New England,WHAAAAAAA! Get over yourself Rivers or it'll be a long year indeed.

May 10, 2007  01:50 PM ET

I agree with all of the comments above. A 2nd year QB who's on a stacked team doesn't have the credibility to make any noise at all. Plus, if his new coach is smart, he'll tell him to shut up and just play.

To: Rivers

Don't hate the player just hate the game.

Philip Rivers will be the Pats sack dummy when they meet again. Marty is gone, so handing the ball off to LT on passing downs is out of the questins this year. Better tighten your rib pads buddy! It's going to be a long season for your arrogant a**

May 11, 2007  02:40 PM ET

Rivers didn't judge his abilities, but his character. Hobbs went on the 50 after the game and did a Merriman dance on Charger logo (ie. like what T.O. did to the cowboys star as a 49er). It was classless. If you remember, LT to exception to that as well.

May 11, 2007  05:36 PM ET

Do you guys object to Rivers calling out another player or was Phillip not polite enough?
Rivers is a terrific talent as well as a good guy. The trade amde with the Giants which swapped P. Manning for Rivers is and will continue to be the greatest stael since the Chargers swapped
the Vick pick for LT and Drew Brees....

May 11, 2007  09:20 PM ET

ellis hobbs is a solid corner, hes physical even though hes a little guy and has the speed to cover talented WR's, and eli becomes a better qb then rivers

May 12, 2007  11:35 PM ET

Rivers said that when Hobbs mocked Merriman's dance on the Chargers' logo. Like what m2the4th said, it was mainly a quip at his character, not his abilities as a corner. Hobbs has the potential to be great, but he shouldn't have gotten so cocky after that win especially since it was a close game.

Just to let you know... The Chargers were the biggest hypocrites after the loss about the Pats celebrating yet they did the same thing in Denver to the Broncos. I have the pics of Rivers himself taunting the Denver fans after their win.

This is Rivers second year as a starter and he better shut his mouth or he'll get popped.
