Who will QB Vikings in 2011?

10:36 AM ET 12.19 | If the season ended today, the Vikings would select anywhere from 9th to 13th in the 2011 draft -- not high enough to get Stanford's Andrew Luck, but probably close enough to nab Auburn's Cam Newton or Arkansas' Ryan Mallett. The realistic quarterback free agent market includes too many career backups -- Peyton Manning and Michael Vick aren't going anywhere -- but there are a few names that could interest the Vikings. Donovan McNabb signed a five-year, $78-million extension with the Redskins, but the team only has to pay him $3.75 million if he's cut after 2010. That scenario is looking more likely after the Redskins benched McNabb for the remainder of the season on Friday. At age 34, McNabb might not play into a potential youth movement should the Vikings go that route. Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck, 35, also could be a short-term option. The Eagles might be willing to ship Kevin Kolb, who showed promise this season, in light of Vick's success.

Jeff George is still looking for work.

He could end up there but why do so many teams go with a starter on the downside of a career? Some teams just don't get it. Surprisingly the Rams got it right though.

I heard Joe Namath might be interested.........Oh wait he's too old.......

True, but he'd love the team cruises.

December 19, 2010  10:53 AM ET

McNabb. He'll be looking for a job.

December 19, 2010  10:57 AM ET

What about Shaun Hill?

December 19, 2010  11:33 AM ET

Marc Bulger is a free agent next season...

December 19, 2010  11:36 AM ET

Heh. I can't help but think this "rumor" and this rumor <http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/255710> are connected.

Heath Shuler is available as well.

The vikings are screwed ..... Couldn't have happened to a more deserving team

Yes him & McNabb (doubtful my moneys on Arizona for him) are probably a Plan 'B' or 'C'.Vick is #1 on every team list needing a QB until/if he re-signs. Only contenders need apply., There is no franchise tag at the end of this season and no CBA so this willl play out for a while get used to the multiple threads on these subjects

The bigger question is what will be tha next team/coach that Favre destroys?

I vote for Seattle and Petre Carrol. He and Brett deserve each other.

December 19, 2010  04:50 PM ET

One-more-year-Brett. It's never too late to un-retire

December 19, 2010  05:33 PM ET

Vikings need to get Ryan Mallett, plain and simple.

totally agree..... but, are they now saying favre "the savior" isn't coming back?? bet he would for another $20 million, especially if a few players flew out to his home and begged him to come back and lead the team to the SB! again.... couldn't happen to a more deserving team and QB!

December 19, 2010  11:12 PM ET

Wherever he ends up, the rest of his career will be a series of one-season contracts until he hangs up his helmet. He's done as a legitimate long-term QB solution.

# month ago I could not even in my wildest imagination that any body will say that about VICK on this board. Every Body was attacking Vick and saying as a QB he is finished. When Philly traded McNabb to Washington I thought the Philly coach is stupid now I think I am the one who is stupid. McNabb +Minnesota will do.

December 20, 2010  07:54 AM ET

Why? This team needs four new tires, not retreads.

December 20, 2010  11:25 AM ET

I hope they dont go the old vet route......i hope they draft best QB available.....Locker/Mallet and stck him in there. i know we'll take our lumps for a year...but we have to start somewhere.
