Did Notre Dame handle accusation with integrity?

11:11 AM ET 12.19 | Curious to see in person how the most visible leader at Notre Dame defended the most famous college football program in America from charges of hypocrisy -- and worse -- I came Friday to hear coach Brian Kelly. And was astonished by what I heard. I shouldn't have been. Kelly used the word "integrity" four times in 30 seconds while answering a question about support for a player accused of sexually attacking a St. Mary's College student who killed herself 10 days later.

Kinda sad when the story is more about how they handled the accusation...Than about the charge itself..How's that for hypocritical integrity....

December 19, 2010  11:41 AM ET

Of course they did...this is ND! They always handle things with integrity.

Hypocrites! Let's hope the Canes whoop'em in the Sun Bowl. Misdemeanors vs. Molesters, the revenge.

There is so much more to this story that will never reach the light of day. It is a sad and tragic. My heart bleeds for this girl and her family. But the fact does remain that the prosecutor looked into this matter and determined that there was insufficient evidence to go forward. All of us have 6th amendment right to confront our accusor and I don't think that any of us would like to live in a country where this basic right is disregarded.
The sad fact is that this young lady took her life (for whatever reason we do not know) and without her testimony there simply was an insufficient case against this individual. Sad but true.

Damn sober post, Bb... I read you.

December 19, 2010  12:55 PM ET

Another sad part is, was there ever a time when you didn't have to take into consideration what agenda the writer might have?

Not saying that is the case here, but you have to wonder on some of these articles.

I read the other day that the Indiana prosecutor dropped the case because Lizzy Seeberg allegation was that an ND football player touched her boob, and that there was no way to prove it.

very sad...

Which goes back to my post Van. Sad sad situation. We don't really know what happened but without the testimony of this young lady nothing could go forward in a court of law. The "allegations" will have to remain as such we just hope and pray that God's love will be showered upon all and that Justice will be done, whether in this world or the next.
Cheers.

Whoa. The girl in this situation, took her own life???

The Feds announced late Friday that they are reviewing university's handling of the case. This isn't going away.

Keep a good thought for the family as they will get no closure for their tragic loss while "the process" continues.

You can help yourself by taking off the tin foil hat.

Right, Brian... Like the integrity you used bailing on the Bearcats just before their bowl game. And let's face it, what's the big deal about sexual assault if it means bad PR for a football player, right Brian?

December 19, 2010  02:16 PM ET

Integrity is only used if you are trying to cover something up! If you have integrity you do not need to mention it! I am sure Hitler used the word integrity when he was signing the papers!

Did this thing happen under Charlie W or Brian K. watch?

When this issue first came up there was a media story that the young woman had a history of emotional turmoil well before this incident. Does anyone know anything about that?

December 19, 2010  03:08 PM ET

Let's also remember that the Trib was castigated by other media sources when they broke the first story without accurate facts etc. Thus, they have an interest in both defending themselves and discrediting ND. No one's hands are clean in this sad story.

It's like everything else in this case. It was reported that she suffered from depression but no evidence has been brought forth to either support or discredit the claim.
