Benson lashes out at critics

Cedric Benson usually bites his tongue when it comes to criticism. Sunday, he couldn't help but lash out. "I've been hearing a lot of people criticize and talk stuff," he said. "They're not watching the games or the plays. They're just throwing out criticism. Do I need to run with more of a burst? No. And [expletive] them. So I guess I'm getting to the hole and walking through the hole, right?" Benson had a few strong runs Sunday but still ended with just 50 yards on 13 carries with a long run of 12 yards. "I only got 13 carries today," Benson said. "Ten more and I probably could have got 100. "Eight more and I probably could have got 100."

You're not going to start crying like you did on draft day, are you Benson?

Unfortunately for you, your games are televised, and the whole football world knows what quality of player you are.

averaging 3.1 yards a carry and more fumbles than tds, we could wonder why the bears don't give you the ball more.

but rather, most of us are left wondering when the bears will draft a rb, in the 1st round or 2nd round next season.

El Busto!

Angelo caused this issue. Trading Jones was a monumental mistake. Jones could stretch the defense, allowing Benson to run between the tackles. It's not Benson's fault that he does not have the speed necessary to run wide. Defenses don't need to be concerned about the outside running game, so they move in and stop the tackle to tackle offense. The Bears have more problems but this is one major problem.

October 29, 2007  08:17 AM ET

Sorry slipperyrock, its not a speed issue, its a hear issue. He's plenty fast, but far too soft. He doesn't complete runs, he steps out of bound when there are yards that could be def picked up, he constantly runs hesitant.

October 29, 2007  08:17 AM ET

sorry... *heart*

October 29, 2007  08:28 AM ET

He doesn't get it, you don't run the ball when you have a gun like Griese back there. There would be some awfully mad defensive backs around the league if you did that.

October 29, 2007  08:42 AM ET

jands, I admit that he runs a little soft. What do you think happened between Texas and Chicago?

October 29, 2007  09:17 AM ET

Slipperyrock,
When Benson was at Texas......he always seemed to dissapear when the team needed him in big games. He NEVER did anything against OU. Jamaal Charles Freshman year was the first year we beat OU. Benson is not fast, he can't catch, and he doesn't pass protect well. I don't know how he got drafted so high. He is one dimensional.....Charles gave us the spark that season. Texas won more games and were more dangerous without Cedric Benson.

October 29, 2007  09:19 AM ET

Note to Benson - Go to NFL.com and click on your name and look at your stats...3.1 yards per carry and you fumble at the most inopportune moments. You are too soft - one hit from Bob Sanders in the superbowl shelved you for good in that game.

I don't buy the speed argument - Marion Barber isn't the fastest RB either but the guy runs with heart, power and emotion.

Now shut up and play (or better for the Bears...sit down).

October 29, 2007  09:23 AM ET

Sounds like things are unraveling in Chicago.

October 29, 2007  09:36 AM ET

America's Legend, thank you for the information. I tend to give a guy the benefit of the doubt. I live in Chicago and nobody, in the press, questioned the trade of Jones. There are more problems for the Bears but this huge. They can't control the clock.

October 29, 2007  09:46 AM ET

Slip,
That is a Big Problem in Dallas. Jason Garrett has to start using Marion Barber too eat up the Clocks in the First half. The Cowboys are passing too much when we should be running the ball.

Marion Barber should be the Starter, wear down defenses and get the lead. Then, Juluis Jones should come in when the Defense is tired and not tackling properly, so he can use his speed.

The Bears have to get a RT, LT, LG, and a young Center for the future. The Bears Offensive line averages about 32 yrs old. I think the future is bad for the Bears unless they get Young Good offensive lineman and some GOOD Cover 2 Safteys!

October 29, 2007  10:13 AM ET

Just shut up and play... peformance and consistency speaks the loudest.

October 29, 2007  10:15 AM ET

America's I don't like Angelo. But that's another issue. You are correct. The offensive line is getting old. The dbs are hurt, if one more goes down to injury it will be a bigger disaster. As for the Cowboys, I can't understand not starting Barber and following your scheme. By the way, Jones in Chicago filled the same role that Jones in Dallas plays. Perhaps Thomas Jones was a little stronger than the Dallas Jones.

October 29, 2007  10:56 AM ET

Cedric Benson sucks. Benson, if you didn't suck, nobody would criticize you. Have fun as a backup for the Rams next year buddy.

October 29, 2007  11:00 AM ET

Cedric Benson = Curtis Enis
Rex Grossman = Cade McNown
Bernard Berrian = David Terrell

News flash: Despite hiring a highly-touted GM, the Bears still cannot draft and/or develop players on the offensive side of the ball.

More later on my blog...

Where's the LOVIE??????????????????

October 29, 2007  11:03 AM ET

This runner is absolutely terrible. No instincts, and I have seen him personally lose ten yards, many a play, just cutting the wrong way behind his blockers.

There's no way he'll be carrying the rock full time for the bears next year... You could plug any backup into his spot, and the YPC would remain the same, or be even better.

October 29, 2007  11:10 AM ET

The Jazz,
Reminds me of Julius Jones. I would rather have a Healthy Correll Buckhalter running the ball anyday! Or just my boy Marion Barber.
