Bulls GM seeks one-on-one talks

Last October, Kirk Hinrich acknowledged that a one-on-one talk with general manager John Paxson -- no agent, little agenda -- on a team flight six days before the deadline had played a role in his agreeing to a five-year, $47.5 million contract extension. Bulls fans won't have to wait long to see if a similar approach works this year. With the Wednesday deadline for extensions looming, Paxson asked Luol Deng and Ben Gordon for one-on-one meetings to try to outline the Bulls' position in terms of their salary structure and the current restricted-free-agent market. Deng, with the support of his agent, was scheduled to meet with Paxson on Sunday. But ended up attending the Bears game and working out late, pushing the discussion to Monday. It's unclear whether Gordon will meet with Paxson.

Trade Gordon, Thomas and someone else for Kobe....

October 29, 2007  07:51 AM ET

i thin kthey should wait till december before dicinding on whether to trade for kobe if noah and thomas play realyl well there is no need to trade them both is there?

October 29, 2007  08:42 AM ET

jerzey man, dont u get it.. kobe wont go to chicago without gordon there, it would take small talent and picks to get him to chicago, and it will only go down if they need to dump kobe for the risk factor. Kobe holds his own destiny in his hands, i would love to see noah, thomas, just maybe deng and a draft pick or two go. but thats it... or just keep the team how it is, and draft a better foward than noah,, he's flordia swamp trash...

dakota, I think its the other way around: kobe won't go to chicago without deng there.

I hope Gordon has his one-on-one or he may end up in Lakerland with Radmonovic and Kwame Brown for the next five years

October 29, 2007  11:27 AM ET

yeah deng is the star he should not be traded

October 29, 2007  11:42 AM ET

Wow Prags, what a great idea. Chicago should keep their players to see if they play good, if so, keep them and don't trade for Kobe. But, if they don't fare so well, send them to L.A. for the best player in the NBA. I'm sure the Lakers will accommodate the Bulls with that move. Now, that is a thunderbolt of brilliance.

There is no reason for the Bulls to even consider trading. They have all the tools to have a championship season. As we all saw Gordon can be that scoring machine that we knew he could be and Deng, well he is just Deng. Deng is amazing and it would hurt the team if we traded him. If a trade where to go down i would trade grodon, thomas, and noah. Deng stays. But i would like to see thomas progress and maybe see if Noah can do anything.

This can work if both sides really want to get something done. The agents are just going to mess things up, Leave them outside, and talk it out.

The Bulls Do Not have all the ingredients to win now. They're missing 2 things, and could use 1 or the other. A) A post player who commands a DT so they can model themselves after early decade Pistons w/ Sheed.
#2 - A star. I like Deng as well, but to consider him to be "amasing" is a grand overstatement. Anyway, he wouldn't be going anywhere. I would shed no tears losing Ben Gordon.
I don't like Kobe the person, but I love Kobe the player. Get him while you can - there's no way the LAkers can get fair value for him.

Ocpete you couldn't have put it any better. Why would the Lakers trade for players that aren't doing well for the best player in the league.
