08:26 AM ET 12.21 | Mario Balotelli has been named the best young player in Europe and claims he hasn't heard of second-placed Jack Wilshere. Balotelli won the prestigious Golden Boy award voted organized by Italian newspaper Tuttosport and voted for by journalists across Europe to recognize the most talented player under 21. However, the Golden Boy award seems to have fueled an already inflated ego. Balotelli insists he is better than previous winners such as Wayne Rooney, Cesc Fabregas and Rafael van der Vaart. "There's only one that is a little stronger than me: Messi," said Balotelli. "All the others behind me."

This just in: Balotelli is full of himself.....

And I would dispute that Balotelli is the best young player in Europe. May Gareth Bale strike down Tuttosport!

This one didn't had an **** whoopin' in his life ... i would be glad to kick his **** instead
He doesn't deserve his status and will never live up to it

I wonder if he said this before or after yesterday's match, when he made that little touch over Howard, then watched and barely moved after it hit the post while Timmy beat him to the rebound.

Balotelli's career, I'm afraid, is going to be another one of those what-could-have-been tales.

That was a heads up play by Howard but the control and touch from Balotelli was world class.

December 21, 2010  09:20 AM ET

My guess is Balotelli will wake up if if he ever gets to play in San Siro in a red and black kit.

December 21, 2010  09:29 AM ET

Is this the only picture they have of him... in a Inter training shirt?

December 21, 2010  09:30 AM ET

Being a City fan, I admire the kid's swag, but to make a statement like this? Eh you got to prove something on the field first. I like the goals Balotelli has made so far for City; however, all of the times I've seen him on the pitch, he looks slow. His moves are simplistic and will not fool anyone. I was yelling for another player (Kolarov, Zabaleta) to take the ck that Balotelli took. If he wants to take kicks, take free kicks because I remember that 35 yd blast while he at Inter... beast.

haha! Cocky bas-tard......

December 21, 2010  09:32 AM ET

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! What a duoosche!

Messi only a little better than Mario? Hey, Mario, try winning a trophy as a starter. Better yet, try locking down a starting role.

Oh yeah, his best pic is still in an Inter training top :P ... sleeveless, too.

Balotelli best young player in Europe. Other than Dynamo, who would believe this? I could probably name 50 better young players of the top of my head. You know, players that have proven their talents on the pitch.

December 21, 2010  09:36 AM ET

And if anyone's interested, rumours out of Germany are that Michael Rensing has found a job with 1. FC Koeln.

I assume Muller is one of these 50. Winning the WC Golden Boot does not prove you are better then Balotelli...

Thomas Mueller comes to mind. If memory serves correct, he won best young player at the world cup, and the scoring title, did he not?

I could probably throw out three names from Bayern alone that I'd rather have than Balotelli.

Maybe they can snap 16th place and win in the playoff. I think we all assume B. Moenchengladbach is taking 18th place, so all Koeln has to do is not finish 17th.

Wasn't B. Moenchengladbach mid table last year? What happened to them?

Yeah i saw the goal differential for B.M'gladbach, it's atrocious. If any team needs a keeper, and a D, its them.

Well and Mueller also won Best Young Player at the World Cup. Although had Balotelli been called up for the World Cup, he probably would have won it.

FYI, Thomas Mueller and Mesut Ozil make SI's list of break out athletes of 2010. they come in at #10. Top that Balotelli.
