07:28 AM ET 12.22 | French striker Nicolas Anelka is planning to quit Chelsea to go and play Major League Soccer in the USA. Anelka, 31, is out of contract in 2012 and has yet to be offered an extension by the Blues. "Nicolas told me he is interested in playing in the United States, " said Claude Anelka, his brother and agent. "We could see him crossing the Atlantic, and I'm serious when I say this. The U.S. is quite something, and a dream destination. He says he will give it a try, even though he would earn less money than in somewhere like Qatar."

We're going to see more and more of this "positioning" by players agents and (apparently) brothers. More and more players are going to use MLS as a bargaining tool to make more money elsewhere. Coming to the MLS? I'll believe it when I see it...

SPAM!!

As talented as Anelka is, MLS doesn't want and/or need someone with such a negative image.

This one is a true gem.

Give the gift of SPAM this Christmas!

Seriously, read that- and try to figure out how long it would take for you to write such a masterpiece of literature.

Me thinks no one would want him. He's a good player with a killer instinct and ability to finish- but he is much more of a poacher than a work-horse, which tends to not work very well in MLS.

I knew the Rotten Tomatoes rating was not to be believed... probably full of reviews from cultists demanding purity and people so 'intellectually advanced' it just didn't make sense...

I still would prefer him to Cuahuatemoc Blanco?

Blanco was interesting.

I had a major problem with the Fire signing him, because at the time it really seemed to be a signing meant to put butt cheeks in the seats.

As it turned out, his vision and skill translated on the field, and despite all of his tantrums and spasms- he made things work pretty much all the way through his time with Chicago (the latter part of 2009 was rough watching him struggle to run).

The more I hear about it- the more I think I'd rather see it before Black Swan. My wife is heading out tomorrow to watch Black Swan with a group of film-addicts (I'll be at work), but I think I might use that as an excuse to go check out Tron when I get out of work.

Yeah, tought movie to reconcile with Black Swan. The lightcycle scene in Tron was breathtaking. There were a couple of "slow" parts in the film, but overall, a total viewing experience which has to be done in Digital 3-D at a minimum. I saw it in IMAX 3-D, but will probably see it later this week in Digital 3-D.

If you go more for the Brokeback type movies than the Terminator like movies, than you might not like Tron quite so much. I will say I enjoy the artsy dramas as well, but a good SciFi film is hard to beat.

Along with your comment about him being more of a poacher, this is the other reason I wouldn't want Anelka. If MLS is going to give the type of salary someone like him would want, there has to be a marketability factor for it to be worthwhile.

Other than Tron, the thing that blew my mind today is that a German from the provencial town of Wuerzburg has surpassed Larry Bird on the all-time NBA scorers list.

It is why I am not completely convinced Ronaldinho would be a good fit with LAG. There's no doubt that he has a great name to help with marketing, but his style is one that I'm not sure would translate here- not to mention it is tough to say if he'd be willing to put the work in and come ready to play (see his history of partying, and now put him in LA to make matters worse).
