Boise State about to run out of gas?

08:17 AM ET 12.22 | Boise State's season will come to too-early an end Wednesday night, but the question remains about how much the Broncos have left in them. This was the most pressure-filled season in Boise State history, a year of unlimited possibilities and no margin for error. A crushing late-season loss at Nevada ended the Broncos' national championship and Rose Bowl hopes, leaving the Broncos in Las Vegas during what, if you believe the locals, is the first extended rainstorm in the city's history. Now Boise State must face an opponent that has seemingly perfected bowl preparation.

It is, what it is!!

As a former resident of Vegas I know they need rain, this is ridiculous though.

Don't know if they are done or not. BYU had their run in the '80's and early '90's. Fresno had their run in the '90's and early Y2K's. Both have some staying power. Only time will tell on Boise.

The real superstar at Boise is Chris Peterson......

Boise is the one team that got screwed the most with their bowl invite. A top 10 team playing on December 22nd? Ridiculous

December 22, 2010  09:10 AM ET

They will fall off some just like all teams do...i.e. Bama, UTx, UF this year. No one stays up forever. The question will be how far will they fall.

Agree...and it is 100% because they are not a member of a BCS conference. No other reason. I've said many time the BCS mentality is to keep the peasants starved and feed them scraps. They just hate it when a Boise/Utah/TCU sticks their nose in there and costs them $$$$$.

You're really raising the bar today.

I thought most of the team were sophomores and juniors (including Moore). Are they expected to lose that many players? If Petersen is back as well as most of the players and their schedule stays pretty much the same I don't see why next year should be any different than this year.

And opening a can of worms.

Once again, they get what they deserve. When you're undefeated and lose to a team that just broke into the top 25, you don't deserve to go to a high profile bowl game. Also, even if they went undefeated, there would still be questions and doubts if they should get a national title shot, even if oregon and/or auburn finished with 1 loss. What does that tell you when a 1 loss SEC or PAC 10 team gets more consideration than an undefeated WAC team. Tells you all you need to know. Football needs a playoff, plain and simple. That way, say the top 16 teams make it, all the TCU's, Nevada's and Boise State's can prove they deserve to be there.

As long as they play the 78th worst record and face 1 ranked team a year, there will be very little fall-off

BYU and Fresno State have staying power? Each has an occasional upset win. But neither has been a threat to break into the top 25 and stay there in a decade. No offense to em.

That's what happens when you lose late in the season. If they were in a BCS conference it would be a different story. Check out UCONN.

Good point. UCONN is very deserving. Boise isn't. What a fricking travesty.

I was just referring to the, um, support that his bar was offering that young lady.

December 22, 2010  09:45 AM ET

Sure are a lot of Boise State haters out there....guess I would be one too if they crushed my alma mater like they have most in the past decade.

Rolls eyes.....deserving of what, the Tidy Bowl?! Having said that I do hope UConn beats the Land Stealers, lol.

Daniel9752, read Comment #7 (What, me worry?) again, it said BYU in the "80's" and Fresno State in the "early 90's".

I was just being sarcastic. Question for all the WAC, MWC, etc easy conference haters. Do you think UCONN would have finished in the top three in those conferences?
