08:18 AM ET 12.23 | Carmelo Anthony missed Wednesday night's game for an unfortunate circumstance that may have him out through the weekend and also affect his future. The Denver Nuggets have decided to temporarily back away from trade discussions involving [Anthony] out of respect for the superstar, who is grieving the death of a close family member, a person familiar with the situation told CBSSports.com. Nuggets officials have begun informing teams that they will not be engaging in any further trade discussions, especially with the closeness of the tragedy to the Christmas holiday. "It is a difficult time" for the Anthony family, "especially during the holidays," the person said.

QUOTE(#2):

Finally someone shows some decency.

Not so sure about that. If Denvers front office has any heart they will grant Melo's wish and trade him to his first choice Knicks. In retrospect Ujiri is using Melo's family issue to buy time hoping it will sway Melo's mind about leaving. The guy has made it clear he wants out since last summer... it's now freakin winter. What will another few days do for the Denver franchise?. Denver's ownership and management are acting like some ugly teenage chick trying to hold on to a handsome man like me.

SO the nuggets arent being decent because they wont trade him to the knicks? that makes no sense at all......melo has other places he will agree to they have to do whats right for the team not whats right for the knicks...so sorry if they wont trade him for garbage and bubble gum...

QUOTE(#8):

Huh??? Denver is in the driver's seat? Anthony is in a hurry to sign something before the new CBA kicks in? Have you been watching this thing? It appears that you haven't.

bro if melo wants the money he is willing to sign the extension with another team besides the knicks...its all about the money...

QUOTE(#5):

I still think that Denver is in the drivers seat, and Melo's unrealistic demands for the Knicks will not go through.Anthony is in a hurry to sign something before the new CBA kicks in, where he will not get such a lucrative deal.At the end of the day, I see neither party accomplishing anything...and both Nuggets and Melo comming away short.

I don't think he's in a hurry or cares that much about the money. If he did he would have signed it and pulled a Vince Carter or Stephen Jackson on them. That is - sign the long contract and become a locker room cancer and stop playing hard... that will get him out of there. Afterall it's only three years... If anything he's showing mercy to Denver franchise
by
1. Letting them know ahead of time he's done with them.
2. Giving them one specific team he would like to go to
3. Entertaining the thought of changing his heart desire on his career path so Denver can get some useful players.

This clearly shows Denver's ownership are acting like idiots and not seeing the favor Melo is doing them. Compare this to what Bron, Bosh and Wade did and y'll realize Denver's ownership and GM are morons. It's like sacrifcing your happiness in life to save a friends life but that friend thinks they are doing you a favor. It's only a matter of time Melo gets fed up with their bluff and tells them to only call him when there's a trade that does not require his signature unless its to NY or he'll talk to them when the season is over.

QUOTE(#10):

I'm not so enthused with a Melo to NY trade to be honest. Don't get me wrong. I want to see the guy in a Knicks uniform as much as you do, but I would rather it happen in free agency since I don't want us to gut the team to land him. I mean what point is there in that? As we see from the mess in Detroit, chemistry should not be undervalued. We have some good pieces now that with Melo as an addition will be that much better. But if we are forced to part with Fields, Chandler, Gallo, etc what did we accomplish?

totally agree

so what does it mean if he agrees to a extension with another team besides the knicks?

QUOTE(#14):

NY and NJ. That are his only interests from what I've heard, and NJ is highly unlikely since they are...well NJ, and they SUCK.Melo should do what's in his best interests. Whatever that is. I can only say what I would do. If I truly wanted to play in at MSG in the greatest city in the world, I would play out my contract and leave free and clear in 4 months. If Denver wanted to ship me somewhere to a team who is willing to trade away assets knowing I'm not staying, fine. I'll play there for the next 4 months. It's no sweat off my testicles. But come next season, barring lockout, I'd be in NY where I want to be.

now from what i read he would go to the knicks, NJ, bulls , and magic

and i agree if he wants to play there you wait to the free agency...but i believe these teams arent going to trade without him taking a extension, and he has informed them he would sign it....

With Walsh in control trust we won't gut the team to help a franchise that will lose Melo regardless. I'm sure Melo knows where we stand and will make it happen. Especially if Nets is the team Denver wants to trade with... Even if he wins in NJ it don't mean ****. Kidd went to the finals back to back and still no one gives a **** about NJ... like the Clippers somethings never change.

For the life of me I don't know why you keep saying that. Obviously its not about the money or he would've already signed a max contract extension with Denver. Come on man. Be honest about the sh--.

he wants out of denver he gets his wish plus the contract he wants before the new CBA

so again what does it mean if he is willing to sign the extension with the nets? and what does it mean that he was willing to sign earlier this year

I know.. I see you... I can hear your heart. I know all you Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago and Atlanta fans are petrified at the thought of Melo in New York. Just ask Kevin Durant how we do it...
