JoePa retiring after Outback Bowl?

08:23 AM ET 12.24 | Though he has stated publicly he has no plans to retire, 84-year-old Joe Paterno may not return to Penn State in 2011. If the rumblings are correct, Coach Paterno will lead Penn State in the Outback Bowl and then ride off into the retirement sunset. ... At least that's what multiple sources in and around the athletic department are saying, all of whom state very emphatically that the wheels have been set in motion for Paterno to step down gracefully following the bowl game and for the school to commence a national search for someone currently outside of the football program to replace the living legend. All point to significant health concerns as being the reason behind the rumored abdication of his Happy Valley throne.

Interesting.....a bowl game where BOTH coaches who are major stars in the game ride off into the sunset.
And yes, I'll believe it when I see it as well, at least as far as Paterno's retirement is concerned.

Buckeyeboy, since you brought up the Ohio State story, what is your take on it?

I feel for you, BB. All we got on the talk radio here in Arky yesterday was the same story regurgitated over and over again by 15 different morons and thier weak assessments of whether the NCAA was fair, is the Sugar Bowl tainted, do the distractions help Arkansas, etc. It's not my school, but I was SICK of hearing about it, too.
BTW, did you see Mark May's comments? He call the Big 10 the sacred cow of the NCAA (along w/ Pac 10) and stated that if the same thing happened Ryan Mallett would miss the Sugar. He said NCAA has a history of suupporting those conferences and more harshly penalizing the SEC........don't guess he's ever heard of a guy named Cam Newton......

Timer, I am ambivalent. Really. I am pissed on one hand but then on another hand I look at it in simple terms and think, hell they did not do something wrong. Think for a moment. Some one gives you a gift. It is your property. Does that mean you cannot sell it? My daughter checked ebay last night for the items that were listed. They were selling for as much as twice what these kids sold their stuff for.
If you are a student athlete and you have a used laptop that your mom and dad gave you. Can you sell it? Of course you can, so why can't you sell these things to make ends meet. Posey and Herron are from very poor families. Pryor less so.
I think the part that people are beating Ohio St up the most about is the fact that they get to play in the Sugar Bowl. The University defended it by saying that they had not done an adequate job of educating them on the rules regarding selling trinkets and the NCAA agreed that the school had not. This was a new rule by the way if you heard ESPN's report. The manual of rules makes the IRS blush.
So I am pissed that my schoold has been tarnished by this but then on the other hand I look at it as a very minor case. Not like Cam or even the Troy Smith incident where he took a $500 handshake from a booster. Everyone knows that is wrong.

Just to get this straight....it isn't OK to use the defense "his Dad did it behind his back and neither he nor Auburn knew anything about it", but it is OK to say "They really didn't understand the rule". Wonder how that would have worked with Bush?
What you say about gifts is correct to a point....however, these are Student Athletes so some things are different. If the SCHOOL gives them something (and these were more awards than gifts), selling them gives the appearance that the SCHOOL is, in a way, giving them money. If these were allowed, then all the school, or booster, would have to do is give them a bunch of stuff and let them sell it on Ebay...kind of a convoluted payment system....
