Report: Redskin confronts Belichick
According to nbcsports.com, Redskins linebacker Randall Godfrey confronted Patriots coach Bill Belichick after his team was dismantled by New England on Sunday. "I said something to (Belichick) after the game," Godfrey said. "I told him, 'You need to show some respect for the game.' You just don't do that. I don't care how bad it is. You're up 35 points and you're still throwing deep? That's no respect." Godfrey went on to say that "great head coaches" like his own coach, Joe Gibbs, the late Bill Walsh, or Belichick's former boss, Bill Parcells, wouldn't have run up the score as Godfrey alleges New England did.

There's always a way to stop the score from being ran up...play defense. Stop crying and tackle someone. Don't let the 2nd string QB shred your defense.

I didn't have a problem with the Patriots doing that. If they want to risk injuries to players that aren't needed on the field, than that's their choice. Why you would do that I have no idea. Peyton was out in the 4th quarter when the Colts were up 31-7. What I do have a problem with is having to hear an ex-player (Keyshawn Johnson) sit here and say he had no problem with it when you know he would have been crying his eyes out had it happened to him when he was playing. I hate that every ex-player automatically gets a shot at being a commentator just because they retire. And then they talk as though we've forgotten what they were like as players.

Well the patriots are running the score up, but that is not their fault. If the Skins, and anybody else they played have a problem with that, they need to stop them early on so the score doesn't get out of hand. That said, players on opposing teams do have a problem with this trend, and if Belicheat doesn't start backing his team off a little when they are up 35, players will do it for him by taking cheap shots. Most of them will probably be directed @ Brady's knees (someone will glady pay a fine for a cheap shot). Again I don't see it as a problem b/c the game is 60 mins. and u must play to the gun. But that certainly doesn't change the players perception on the field when they are handed their still beating heart. I only hope that we get another shot @ them in the big game if both teams. U have to beat the best to be considered the best.

if both teams make it that is.

When u are up by that score the general rule is to run most of the time to run the clock out. If they score on u, then start throwing it again.

he should have gave bill a wedgie, it would explain the constant constipated look on his face at least.

The media is constantly bombarding us with news of offensive records and making all sorts of comparisons between contemporaneous teams and teams across years. I want to see the PATS go for some of these records, especially after their achievements were downgraded over the years as scrappy, boring, flukish, and freakish. Now if people stop characterizing the PATS this way OR if the league stops keeping offensive stats / records, then I'll be happy to endorse any argument against scoring.
Not that that's the PATS' official position. BB feels that with big early leads he earned an opportunity to experiment with schemes and players and do some learning / testing under real game conditions. It's vital, especially with a contest against the COLTS looming.

Like HOF coach Joe Gibbs I don't have a problem with what NE did. I also don't have a problem with a couple players venting in the media. I see a 98 Vikings scenario (15-1 regular season and no superbowl ring). I could be right, I could be wrong.

I agree with most in that the best way to ensure there are no blowouts is by fielding a team that can compete. Had the Skins bothered to play any kind of defence, the score would not have turned so ugly. Obviously it was a team of guys hoping the Pats were looking past them to this week's game against the Colts. Instead, like was mentioned earlier, the Pats used it as a tune up game, and experimented a bit. And they DID put in their back up...

I do think Belichick has no class but if you don't want to get embarrassed then stop them. If you can't stop them, light one of them up in between plays. Yes you will get a flag, but they're going to get that 15 the next play anyways

This whole line of comments from opposing players is getting tiresome. I am sorry that NE makes their defenses look completely ineffective, but the game is 60 minutes long with nothing close to a mercy rule anywhere on the books. You want revenge? Then get back on the practice field and gear up when the Pats come back to town. Don't go whining to the coach that his team picked on you, like a third grader crying to mommy about the big bad bully in the school yard. And let's not forget that the last NE touchdown was Matt Cassell running practically in slow-motion, untouched until he crossed the goal line! Short of pulling folks out of the stands and letting them suit up for a few snaps, I don't know how you stop this game from being anything less than a train wreck for the Skins.

what will happen when Brady's still in during another blowout in the 4th quarter and someone takes him out? then what will all the Pats fans be saying about Bill B. leaving all his studs in so late in a blowout game ?
i like tom brady don't get me wrong but the fact that he flipped out in the 4th quarter over ONE false start penalty makes him look very petulant and childish to me. i mean, i know he demands perfection, but tom, you're up like 38-0 in the 4th, it's over man just let it go.
just my opinion.

If you don't like the score being rung up, then stop the Offense. What else can Belichick do beyond what he already did in the 4th? He pulled out some of his best receivers, his best QB.....what else could he have done short of taking a knee every snap after getting the ball. The 2nd string beat you for points!!!!
Running up the score sucks...yip it does. A bit classless. If you really want to stop it and make them think twice...then play dirty. Make them pay for leaving key players in after they run up the score. A few starters being carted off the field in the 4th quarter of a game they had won in the first half would give them reason to pause the next time they decide to go for a long bomb when they are up 40pts.

If you really think the other team is "running up the score," try something daring on defense:
Everyone on defense take a knee at the snap of the ball. Go ahead and let them get their score.
Repeat it the next time they get the ball.
Keep doing that until the game is over.
