09:35 AM ET 12.26 | Kobe Bryant walked into the locker room after LeBron James and the Miami Heat had finished their Christmas humiliation of the defending champs, and it was clear he didn't have much of a pep talk for his teammates. "We're playing like [bleep]," Bryant shouted. The Lakers believed they had a good practice Thursday. But come Friday, the coaches still didn't feel their players had the right focus. Bryant refused to speak to the media for the second straight day after Friday's practice. Pau Gasol even called the Heat game a "must win."

The Lakers are having good practices in preparation for their games but the defending champions have gotten nowhere so far this season. Kobe Bryant has reason to be upset because his teammates aren't playing well. Kobe and Pau combined to start 0-11 yesterday in the first quarter and the Lakers dropped to 2-4 agaisnt teams with a record of .500 or better. They have only played six teams in that stat over their first 31 games so you figure their record would be outstanding because of an easy schedule but it's not. The Lakers lost four in a row at one point, three of them coming to teams not even in the top 10 in their conference: the Rockets, Pacers, and Grizzlies. They have also nearly lost to the Nets and the Raptors, and they are not looking like the team that played so well the past two seasons.

Truth be told, it doesn't matter how the Lakers think they are playing, they can't match up with the Heat anyway. The Heat are too quick, too skilled and too athletic for the Lakers.

The Lakers version of big ball is too slow for the Heat's defense.

I can't wait to see how the new look Spurs are going to match up against them.

But, unless something bad happens to the Heat, they are turning out to be the team I thought they would be and run away with the title.

I say this because the Heat's defense is the best in the NBA and they have the offensive horses to compliment it. In a seven game series a team would have to shoot lights out just to squeeze out one or two victories against them, I don't know how they are going to get 4.

Let's review this in May, shall we?

Hope Kobe is upset with himself too. He showed signs of wear and tear last year are we to see more of a decline this year. Maybe he needs more rest this year.

Can't ever give credit where it is due I see.

Lebron and Cleveland beat Kobe and the Lakers Christmas 2009 but failed in the playoffs. We have seen great records in the regular season from Lebron's teams so expect people to be skeptical.

Wasn't even as close as the blowout would have you believe. Having memories of the Lakers team that lost to Detroit in the Finals. It's not that the talent isn't there, it's that the talent looks unfocused and lazy. Not the season I had envisioned. With that said, it's only December so there is time... but not much.

As usual, 98% of people are reactionary to the moment.
Like spectators in a tennis match, heads swiveling back and forth, their 'opinions' on final outcome change with the direction of the ball.

With regards to the Xmas game, The team with something to prove will usually do better in these 'exhibition' scenarios.

When it really counts however, i.e. Playoffs, Finals is where the truths, the realities are uncovered.

I predict, if by miracle Miami reaches the finals, Lebron will yet again withdraw into his shell, Bosh's skirt will come untucked, and Wade will find himself yet again, all alone and against the one player who has more heart than he does,.. KB.

He who laughs last, laughs best,..

I am actually relieved the Lakers lost. The last 3 xmas games have been like that, with the Lakers winning the last 2 rings, it's probable the outcome might be the same again....lol
Now seriously, I think it's funny how some people think the Lakers can't match up the Heat. We are talking about one game during the regular season. The Heat has many holes and when they play elite teams they are totally exposed.
That said Lakers is playing like sh-t now. They are not motivate and have no desire. Bring their A game and I can bet the outcome from last night would be totally different.
Now is PJ's job to make sure these guys come playoff time and turn things around but at the same time they need to start putting their heads again and play ball like champs.

The Heat was the better team. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. The Lakers are STILL the team to beat. They are the reigning Champs and they lost one game to the heat....still too early in the season......GO MAGIC!

Exibit 'A' above.

One game is not nearly enough information to make such an definite statement.

Okay so you won one game against the Lakers. Your team did a great job on defense and hit all timely shots when the Lakers were trying to make a run at it. Great Job - can we give you a championship right now or shall we postpone it until June?

If you remember 98% of the Lakers homers here including me predicted a Heat win and possible blow out.

I noticed that you agreed with some bloggers here that the Lakers cannot win 4 games from your team because Heat plays great defense and are too athletic for the Lakers. Here is the thing - you still cannot stop Odom. Bynum if he is healthy will give your team fits.

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT Thing you still have not beaten Boston. Who is A Complete team that does not have any holes.

So congradulations on your fine win on Xmas day. YOu deserved it.

LAKES REAL SEASON Starts on Tuesday against the Spurs.

Good post.

BTW How could Lakers have good practices if they traded Vujacic? The best practice player that there is.
