Time to sign V-Jax?

08:03 AM ET 12.29 | The coach and GM jobs are secure for at least the beginning of 2011, so what about the talent? Now that Dean Spanos and A.J. Smith have stuffed the ballot box and re-elected Norv Turner as Chargers sheriff for 2011, it's time to open the wallet, put pride aside and make sure their coach's pistol is fully loaded. And that means bringing back receiver Vincent Jackson, a silver bullet. If the Chargers' president and general manager are going to enthusiastically commit to Norv, clearly against the townsfolks' wishes, at the very least they should give him the opportunity to begin next season -- if there is a season -- with guns blazing.

Yeah signing Jackson to a long-term contract makes perfect sense, about four months ago...

So, Schottenheimer wins 14 games and loses in the first round of the playoffs and is fired. Norv Turner, however, fails to make the playoffs this year and keeps his job?

There is no way in hell Smith does this (signs Jackson). It would insure that he looks like a fool.

I hope he goes to the Colts so Peyton can have a big physical receiver he can throw to down field.
We all know J.A. Smith isn't gonna sign him because it would make him look bad for not giving him what he is worth in the first place.

People, if your V-Jack why would you sign in SD....you know Smith is a jerk....get out why you can.....make them Franchise you...again if CBA contains.....but no way I resign with SD if I am VJACK. Bigger question why would anyone deal with a an owner and GM that treats his employees like dirt.....get out and get out now!!

A.J. Smith general managed this team right out of Super Bowl contention. If they picked a "Worst NFL Executive of the Year" who do you think it would be? He must think he is running a plantation or something.

Norv Turner is hands down an awful coach.....how this guy is still employed in the NFL is beyond me.

It's A.J.'s ego ... he couldn't keep Shotz quiet and fired him to do so ... Turner knew coming in that if he plays ball with "No Rings Smith", he'll be fine.
Let LT go and the running game is no better ... maybe worse?
Top QB whose best target is the TE? Granted Floyd stepped up and played great, but the mosh pit of injuries was carried by Rivers. Statistically a top 2 or 3 defense and yet still miss the playoffs? There were games they were simply out-schemed.
A.J. needs to go first ... remove the EGO from business.

So how much of this will be influenced by the team's focus\threat on LA and a new stadium instead of being in SD?
And to rethink my own comments above ... is SD ownership showing the owner's hand by being so conservative about changing management with a pending CBA?

They wanted to sign him 4 months ago but Jackson wanted to become the highest paid WR in the league. Hes not even cloose to the best so the Chargers shouldnt have paid him what he was demanding. If he was reasonable, they wouldve signed him.
