08:27 AM ET 12.29 | Bobby Jenks, once he learned the White Sox wanted to give Adam Dunn huge money and Jenks' number, opened his options before signing with the Red Sox. Other teams besides Boston had interest. Jenks listed those opportunities from closing for Tampa Bay to starting -- yes, starting -- for the Texas Rangers. Jenks was a starter for five Minor League seasons with the Angels before being converted to the bullpen when joining the White Sox. "Starting has always been in the back of my mind," said Jenks, who added how he tossed around the idea with White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper during his final month of 2010 inactivity due to ulnar neuritis.

What are you doing in Texas Nolan???

I can understand this, history shows this is very doable, actually has there ever been a 1 inning pitcher who developed into a credible starter?

Not that I can think of -- it usually happens the other way around, e.g. Eckersley, Smoltz.

How has history shown that this is doable?

He's too fat to start

he's too fat to relieve.

I couldn't think of any solid examples then Googled it... Not many examples - even Lowe spent 6+ years as a starter in the Minors/Majors before going relief then back to starter.

Jenks problems have always been between his ears. Million dollar arm... 25 cents brain. The White Sox picked him up from the trash heap and he repays them how? He lost so many very winnable games last year he needed a pay cut. Good Luck Bobby, you are gonna need it.

What about Adam Wainwright? I think he's doin ok as a starter. Ryan Dempster was a closer who converted. Bobby had problems pitching in the few appearances he had over the last few season. Now he's going to give you 200 innings? Sorry, but I doubt that fat body of his has that kind of durability needed to endure a 150-200 inning season. He's a DL vacation waiting to happen.
