08:35 AM ET 12.29 | On the score sheet, it goes down as a resignation. Eight years to the date of his hiring, Darryl Sutter has stepped down as general manager of the Calgary Flames. Assistant general manager Jay Feaster is the acting general manager until further notice. In a press conference, [president Ken] King said he asked Sutter to voluntarily move aside. "Darryl is stepping aside because we asked him to," King told a hastily-called news conference at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

8 years of Sutter...Fear not Leaf fans, Burke is 25% of the way there.

Maybe the Flames getting rid of their GM will start a trend. I'm thinking New Jersey could or should follow suit.

Maybe he's asking Brian if he needs an assistant?

Asking someone to resign is pretty much the same as firing them. I hate the PC world i live in. Just come out and say i fired his ass. Sheesh.

Of course you're right. Sort of like........"It's not that you're doing a bad job Darryl. Not at all. Your credentials are superb, but we want to take a little different direction now, sort of going 'Sutterless' you might say, and we know you'll help us with that. Goodbye. And thanks for all you've done."

exactly - forget this gentlemen's world b.s. - Sutter (and brothers) are running the Flames into the ground, and he needed to be fired. End of story.

Are they going to politely ask the rest of them step aside? Or are they going to let the season play out?

I am curious to see what Feaster will do with this team.

December 29, 2010  10:14 AM ET

forgot to add :
The article I read when this news broke, was that Feaster is only an "acting GM" at this time ... so does that mean the Flames intend to shop for a better GM at some point?

If anyone was subjected to Ken Kings 'eulogy" for Duhryl they will need pepto bismal. It was horrible.King spent 15 minutes essentially masturbating over the corpse. If Duhrly was so great why did ya have to fire his "donkey"?? The call was right( a year late) but right-Move on King your not foolin anyone-Duhryl is fired.Lets see what Buhrent and Jay who never misses a Feaster can do now ;-)

My biggest question now that this first step has been taken is will it lead to more perhaps bigger steps? Is Feaster going to go into a rebuild mode and fire off some trades or are they going to stay the course.
