12:13 PM ET 10.30 | According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Angels are the odds-on candidates to sign Alex Rodriguez to his next mega-contract. He also lists the Red Sox, Giants, Dodgers, Mets, Cubs and, yes, even the Yankees as possibilities.

As great as A-Rod is, if I was an owner of the clubs above, I would use my $30M a year for a couple of players (rather than just one). A-Rod is all about stats and what milestones he can break.

Every time you hear him mentioned about his homeruns is that he will some day pass Bonds.

I would prefer he hit 10 homeruns a year and my team wins the pennant, than him hit 40-50 and my team get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

ARod should sign in hell. Any owner that gives this jerk the money he wants is insane, period. I'm a Mets fan, watch the Yankees and don't like the Red Sox much. I'm happy for Terry Francona and Mike Lowell. The Red Sox would be wise to keep away from this classless act. Borass and ARod couldn't wait until the World Series was over? That shows you just how much these two idiots care about baseball tradition. They have zero respect for anyone but themselves. I'm OK with trying to maximize your salary, but for crying out loud, do it the right way. I wish the owners would boycott ARod and Borass, see how the taste of leaving $75 or $100 million on the table and not getting a contract would be like. Highly unlikely, but I'd love to see their reactions.

Sign him for the regular season and keep him off the playoff roster. That should work.

ARod/Borass: you need to start thinking about removing your huge heads from that dark place you sit on...

$30 million annually is way too much, I'd rather see the Cubs upgrade their rotation with that kind of cash.

October 30, 2007  12:59 PM ET

PLEASE....stay away from the RED SOX, who are team-oriented!! This egomaniac needs to "strike out "with every club in MLB. Let's all AVOID negotiating with Boras for his services!!!!

we can only hope Japan!

October 30, 2007  01:21 PM ET

i would take him in a second, are you guys kidding? And why not a mention of the Tigers? I have been hearing they are in the running

October 30, 2007  01:22 PM ET

As much as I'd like to see A-Rod not signed anywhere as a message to the baseball agents and owners who use Monopoly money when drafting these contracts...the fact remains that baseball has recovered from the steroid scandal and is now the most profitable it's ever been. And, with no salary cap to worry about...if you spend $30 million per year on A-Rod, but your team makes $45-50 million because of him, isn't that a smart signing?

Let's face it - professional sports are a business first, a passion for the owner second, and about winning last. As long as the product is popular with the fans, and as long as the team makes money for the owner, I don't think many care about winning championships (especially when you consider how few teams have won Championships the last twenty years in the "Super Free Agency" market).

So, I guess my point is that A-Rod will get his millions, and the owner that signs him will probably make more money with him than without him.

October 30, 2007  01:36 PM ET

Does Hell have a team?

October 30, 2007  01:41 PM ET

there is always the mexican leage.... i'm sure he can get 30 million Pesos per year down there.

October 30, 2007  01:42 PM ET

I disagree with the Boston scenario. Remember, Pay-Rod ridiculously and self servingly announced his "opt out" with the Red Sox a few outs from the Championship. He crashed their party. They've got to be annoyed. Secondly, Pay-Rod realized that he was always going to be #2 behind Jeter in NY. Does he really think he's going to be "the man" in Boston behind Big Papi and Beckett? How long would the "good teammate" act last? 2 seasons?

October 30, 2007  01:42 PM ET

As a big time Yankee fan I hope that A-Rod goes and jumps in a lake with his 30 million in his pockets. This is the ultimate spoiled, lying athelete who professes his love for a team over and over and then can't wait to bolt. Is it a wonder why after he leaves a team other players are not upset that he's gone. He can go rot for all I care.

October 30, 2007  01:44 PM ET

Hahahaha, yeah, Hell hath a team and Giambi, Bonds, Palmeiro, McGwire, Canseco and ARod are charter members.

October 30, 2007  01:45 PM ET

I hope he ends up hitting homers off Ricky Vaughn in the California Penal League...

October 30, 2007  01:47 PM ET

Didn't the Mariners win 116 games the year after he left?

October 30, 2007  01:48 PM ET

The only team I hate anywhere near as much as the Yankers and would wish this dead rotting walrus on is the Cardinals. I wish they would get Nim-Rod and let his massive ego and stupidity rip that clubhouse apart.

October 30, 2007  01:53 PM ET

All of you poor upset Yankee fans. You treat a player that wins the MVP two of the four years he is a Yankee like crap, boo him, then expect him to be loyal!!! What a load of crap.
I would welcome him to the Dodgers, although I do not believe he will come here. Look for ARod to lead the Angels to the title next year.

October 30, 2007  01:55 PM ET

If the Giants sign him, their destined to repeat the Bonds era. Not totally horrible, but a pretty slim chance at a World Series. The Angles, Dodgers, Red Sox, Mets and Yankees are the only teams that can afford to pay one player $30mil/yr and still field the support to go with him. The Giants already have too much wrapped up in Zito, adding A-Rod would mean they have over half their payroll in two players. If this was the NBA that would be fine, but baseball teams have 25 players.

October 30, 2007  01:56 PM ET

$$$-Rod will go where the money is thrown. Greed is his motivation, not baseball, not championships and certainly not the fans.

As a Yankee fan, I am not sad to him go. Personal statistics were great, but personal life was dreadful. Cynthia may be legally stuck with the guy, but I am glad for the Yankees that they are through with him.

Good riddance. We won it all with Scott Brosius, nothing with $$$-Rod

October 30, 2007  01:56 PM ET

Yes Hell has a team..they are better known as the Orioles

October 30, 2007  02:02 PM ET

The truth is that A-Rod is a great player within the regular season. His teams come to depend on him and then he's got no jump in the playoffs. His teams will always fold in the post-season because he folds in the post-season. I've been watching baseball for 50 years and it has always been my experience that selfish players always fold in the playoffs. Look at the teams that have won the World Series : not a selfish player among them. Everything is the team, the team is everything.
