Blackhawks left hoping Toews isn't lost for long

10:31 AM ET 12.29 | In goes Patrick Kane, out goes Jonathan Toews. When Toews got up [from a big hit in the first period], he was favoring his right shoulder and slowly made his way to the bench. He sat among his teammates for a few moments before leaving for the locker room. The captain didn't return. That was the worst blow during an ugly night that would have been even uglier if it wasn't for an amazing night by goalie Marty Turco. The Blues simply dominated the Hawks in a 3-1 victory at the Scottrade Center. Officially, the Hawks are calling what happened to Toews an upper-body injury. But he was clearly holding his right shoulder after the hit.

I don't know why they mention Kane's name in the story. Toews is worth three Kanes!

Back by playoffs with a much needed rest. But this is when Hossa usually dissssapears.

I want to plead ignorance (which isn't hard for me to do since it's the truth). But WTF is this nonsense about "upperbody/lower body" injuries? Why can't they just say, separated shoulder, sprained knee, abdominal strain, broken toe etc. I know that every now and again an injury is actually described, but not nearly as often, or as accurately, as in other major sports. Is there a reason? Not the most important thing on the planet, just curious.

Its the NHL Buddy- Gary is called a commish, duhryl "stepped down", teams are placed where ice don't grow, and the league had a work stoppage so that now the money is more ridiculous then before. With that in mind the logic of a sprained knee equalling a lower body injury seems kinda appropo...no ?

If they say what it is - opposing goons will focus on that injury- although they can pretty much guess what it is.

Nobody ever explained it to me so clearly before Harry. Thanks a lot.

PS

Darryl didn't step down? I'm betting he get's a starring role in Trailer Park Boys. Something he'd be good at. :-)

I believe that it was written in the last collective agreement that teams were allowed to use those terms (upper/lower body injury). And yea, as Hawkeye said, goons won't know where to focus their dirty hits. Heck, even if you tell some of these guys what part of the body to focus on they still wouldn't know. ;)

And if you told them to spear Kessel in the heart they'd really be confused. :-)

Thanks everybody for the clarification on that. I didn't know it was actually addressed in the CBA. Sounds like "overkill" to me but, if both sides are happy who cares?

And on really important stuff, I wait for Hank to decide before I take a position!

I would liken BB to the Wizard - people seemed to think he was all powerful, yet when the curtain is pulled back ... well the results speak for themselves.
