08:37 AM ET 12.31 | Patrick Willis wants to see Takeo Spikes enough next season that he may be willing to re-work his contract to make it happen. "There's no doubt: I do want him back. If they were to ask me right now, at this very moment, I'd say: 'What do I need to do to make that happen?'" Willis said [Thursday]. Spikes is the most notable defensive starter eligible for free agency. Others heading into their potential final game with the 49ers are linebacker Manny Lawson, nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin and free safety Dashon Goldson. Linebacker Travis LaBoy, who on the injured reserve list, is also a free agent.

Maybe Spikes just wants to get out while the gettin' is good. Might be a few years before the 9ers are relevant again.

Spikes has played like 14 seasons and has NEVER been to the playoffs....I think I would want to get rid of a bad luck charm like that

Being with the Bengals and Bills didn't help either.

Why not? Everytime a player redoes his contract he gets more signing bonus money and more in guaranteed money and the fans think of him as a " team " guy first. Spikes? Use your brain and get out of there.

Well...with a decent QB the 9ers may have a chance. They could...

...no...no I'm just kidding myself...

You have to place a large chunk of the blame for the QB play on ole Coach Mike. His constant swaps and spats with his QB's certainly didn't help out matters. Plus when Alex Smith has more OC's than years in the NFL that might be a problem as well. Looks like another year, another OC if he's still around.
