Mangini was never in Holmgren's long-term plans. Holmgren was just buying time until he had a nice selection of potential head coaches to choose from. Now he does...

I'm not sure a big name head coach would be successful with Holmgren. Holmgren could get a lot of talent at half the price by taking a good look at some of the young up-and-comers.

Am I the only one to realize that John Gruden won his Super Bowl with someone elses team (Tony Dungy), and when left to his own devices he stunk it up for the Bucs?

But Bill Callahan did take Gruden's team to that same Superbowl you mentioned. Kind of makes your first point moot.

All I'm saying is that he took a Super Bowl team to 7-9 and 5-11 subsequent seasons

Gruden is only effective if he takes over a team somebody else built up, just ask Tony Dungy. Oh well, the Browns never seem to go anywhere anyway. Bring in Gruden to make sure of it.

I don't think working for Holmgren and having him over your shoulder is real high on the list of things a top HC is looking for. Not at all. The guy who goes thee will always be number two to Holmgren....

Gruden is seen as the leading candidate for every open coaching position at all levels of football. I read in the local paper this morning that one of our peewee Pop Warner teams was interested in seeing if he can light a fire under some of the "mama's boys" on their team.

Only in the NFL can a guy like Holmgren who ran the Seahawks into the trash pile as their GM/HC resurface as a savior.
