Winter Classic in Central Park?

08:48 AM ET 01.02 | If the NHL Winter Classic is about gate receipts, it won't be coming to New York for some time. But if it's as much about finding the perfect backdrop for television, if it is about the setting as much as it is about marquee teams, then Central Park would be the perfect venue. If they can build a rink on Sheep's Meadow with temporary stands seating up to 20,000 - people will come. If they play the Winter Classic in New York, people will notice.

A game in Central Park? Not going to happen. Especially a night game.

If they play the Winter Classic in Hooker, people will come.

From the Hooker Montana Gazette.

Actually sounds like a good idea. Better than playing in Pittsburgh in the rain.

When you know how they keep artificial ice cold, playing here would've made more sense. It didn't rain here yesterday.

They sold 70000 tickets for last nights rainshow. It's about gate receipts.

Talk about open season for the MUGGERS!Then David Letterman and his HOOKERS will have a field day!

January 2, 2011  10:01 AM ET

Frodo's trying to turn the winter classic into the Super Bowl and given how many tickets were sold, he just might do it. Central Park in front of 20000 would be more traditional and less circus like.

I can see it now, the cameras avoiding the 20,000 homeless people all around. Last night would have been a good show, except for the rain. Half the teams are probably sick this morning.

I'm starting to think a coalition of spammers own SI's website. Would explain why the site is crumbling.

I'd love to come out there and watch a game. Do they have an arena anywhere? I've never been to Hawaii, but that is definitely on my "to do" list.

January 2, 2011  04:03 PM ET

you stupid morons posting from hawaii, idaho and everywhere in between...New York is probably safer than your crap cities where NOTHING ever happens except gay sex at the local city park bathrooms. However, keep the NHL out of central park....its a place for reflection, not eposition and extravaganza. KEEP ALL COMMERCIAL INTERESTS OUT OF CENTRAL PARK!

Not to stay, born there, retired here, but I'm kind of wanting to see a classic downtown, to be honest.

Why the hell not? It seems to be the forum for everything else these days. As for "commercial free", who is this guy calling out "stupid morons" kidding? Used to love going into Central Park in the mid to late 70's for the Schaefer Music Festival at the band shell. Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen sharing a bill with The Charlie Daniels Band was particularly memorable, even with everything that was smoked..... And as I recall, Simon and Garfunkle once put on a little show in the Park too. A regular extravaganza it was.........

Lastly, what is an eposition?
