Heels say NCAA rules not broken

A review by North Carolina's NCAA compliance department has determined no NCAA violations occurred when former Tar Heels players talked to basketball prospects during a recruiting visit. In an e-mail to the Observer on Tuesday, North Carolina associate athletics director for communications Steve Kirschner said former players Sean May and Marvin Williams and North Carolina's compliance officials were under the misimpression that as part-time students, May and Williams could speak to recruits. Only full-time, enrolled students are allowed to speak with recruits, Kirschner said.

Old Roy, as you call him..possesses the ability to seperate himself from fecal stains and maintain that sweet aroma...I believe you infidels refer to it as falling into ****, and smelling like a rose yes?

So, if I read the article correctly, they did commit a minor violation. Isn't that what the article said? Somebody help me!

October 31, 2007  03:45 PM ET

Oh yes...guilty....but what will come of it?

October 31, 2007  04:36 PM ET

I don't know how college coaches keep up on these recruiting rules??

October 31, 2007  08:01 PM ET

The compliance office determined a violation didn't occur because it hadn't been aware of the distinction between part-time and full-time regarding conversations with recruits.............

You just got to love it when a University declares they are innocent of any wrong doing because they are IGNORANT. Stupid as it were. I guess ignorance of the law is now a defense. That is good to know, I will have to remember that if I ever need it. So much for institutions of higher learning.

That would never happen at Duke University.

It seems to me the article is proving a violation DID occur. Not knowing is not the same as not doing. They did it.

November 4, 2007  10:02 PM ET

Whoa, THF ! Why all the anger ? Duke fans are probably quite annoying and they probably did get away with one with the Maggette thing but your vitriolic comments would surely get a disclaimer from any UNC alumni association.

Wow!! I guess Coach K paying off the refs doesn't count!
