BC players big men on campus
What happens when you play on the nation's No.2 ranked team at a school that's been ranked No.1 only once and that was in 1942? You become rock stars. At Boston College, the football players do not live in athletic dorms or take special courses reserved for athletes. They live among the general public and are expected to compete academically as well as athletically. BC was recently ranked No. 1 in graduation rates among Bowl Subdivision schools. Running back Andre Callender said things have changed on the quaint Chestnut Hill campus. Students are asking players for autographs. Callender said he even received a phone call from his high school athletic trainer.

Congratulations, BC! You've earned it. Top-notch football and top-notch athletics. That program is a shining example of what all NCAA football programs should look like. Go Eagles!!!

BC is becomming a great program but I have to stay...academically, athletically and traditionally they are still Notre Dame "wannabees." It drives them crazy that the media and the rest of the country is still more fascinated with the Irish. (Even their trials and tribulations get more attention than BC does). It takes a long time to build a tradition but BC is moving in the right direction for sure.

Gariboy, if you are going to talk academics then at least use the right verb tenses when you are making a point. ND SUX!!

Why do we have to kept watching sorry ND every Saturday. Somehow they got a contract to air games on ABC, they don't deserve this priviledge, they sux!

Do you have a touch of the Down's Syndrome? What is a Notre Dame "wannabe?" Aside from both being Catholic schools with top-tier academics and football teams that wear gold helmets, what do BC and ND have in common? Nothing. Do you see BC building its own Touchdown Jesus? Is BC changing its colors to blue and gold (and occasionally green)? Has it decided to move its campus from Boston, one of the greatest cities in the country, into an awful cornfield in the middle of nowhere? Has it invented the "Four Eaglemen" to compete with the Four Horsemen? Wake up. ND has been BC's beatch for years, and it will stay that way. BC wants to be anything BUT ND.

They would be the only school that wants to be like ND. I think you got that backwards, Notre Dame is BC " wishtheyweres"

No, no, Gariboy is right. I'd hate to attend school in a pleasant, young city. I'd much prefer the **** of America.

You guys just confirm what I wrote. I am no ND fan but there is no institution on the planet that conjures up more passion than Notre Dame. As my "drop out" friend from USC says, "let the haters hate." (Whatever that means).

By the way Sooner Magic!! I am trying to find the word "sux" in the dictionary with no success. I would therefore assume that you graduated from Oklahoma with a PE degree like 99% of their athletes (that is the ones that do graduate).

"[T]here is no institution on the planet that conjures up more passion than Notre Dame." You can't be serious. If you are, like I said, you have a touch of the Down's going on.
I suggest substituing "passion" with "laughter," or "embarrassment."

Gariboy-
So you post an anti-BC message and pro-BC people fire back, therefore confirming your argument that ND conjures up passion? If someone from Middlebury commented that "BC wishes it had our athletic graduation rate! They are wannabes!", they would be shot down just as hard. Dude, if you antagonize you will get a response, regardless of who or what you're talking about.

Eagle 1, the number 2 team in the country (Boston College) is playing Florida State (at BC) on Saturday night and the best they get is regional coverage on ABC. A 1-7 Notre Dame team is playing a 4-4 Navy team that same day and the entire country wil get to see it. I won't belittle people afflicted with Down's symdrome by making light of their condition (as you so eagerly did) but if you think BC and ND are on equal planes regarding fan interest you are delusional at best. Enjoy your one year in the limelight and next year you will be back with your mrdiocre team playing at home in a stadium that isn't even sold out. Perhaps your time would be better spent following the Patriots...?

Folks, I just re-read my last entry and I wish I had not sent it. I respect BC as an institution and what they have accomplished this year with their football program. We could do a lot worse than have someone with a 96% athlete graduation rate become national football champions. It would send a great message that you can excel in both areas if the university insists on it. I hope they run the table! Good luck Eagle 1!
