Harper to make MLB roster?

08:20 AM ET 01.03 | Bryce Harper remains an interesting talent, if only because his sharp rise has yet to be threatened. Harper is projected to be in the majors by 2013, but, thus far, the 18-year old has proven he could play with professionals. He wasn't overmatched in the instructional league or the Arizona Fall League. He will be in major league spring training and will face big league pitching for the first time. It wouldn't come as a surprise if Harper played well and made the team out of spring training.

Careful Washington, take it easy and learn from your past mistakes.

from what has been said about this kids attitude moving him up to the majors so soon would do nothing but make his ego bigger. thats the last thing that he needs is to get up there and believe that he is bigger then the rest of the team. it would be a stupid move on the part of the nationals. make him earn his wway and learn his place in the minors. i would love to see him get benched over his attitude issues while playing for a 1A team this season. id also like to see a major league pitcher buzz his head when he does make it if he hasnt learned his place by then.

What past mistake? You can't mean Strasburg since every expert agrees that the Nats handled him with kid gloves.

You're kidding, right?

Hopefully the kid has the maturity to handle all the fame and fortune that awaits him in MLB. If he's ready then that is where he belongs and I hope he's as fantastic as the hype.

I love that you're already asking for the kid to be benched based on a couple rumors. The kid has been in the spotlight for a few years now. He has youtube videos created in his honour. The kid never had a chance to be a kid. If his ego is too big then he should be in the mlb. He might get a rude awakening and be a better person in the long run. Or he smashes everyone and makes the Nationals relevant.

I have to agree as well. Me Long Duck is right as well. There is some sort of behind the scense work with Strasburgh. The kid would have been just as dominant and hyped if he had played the full year in the minors

January 3, 2011  12:30 PM ET

...and could have injured himself there, too. I haven't seen him play but talked to some friends who went to DC and they say his stuff was unbelievable. I thought they were planning to shut him down, and he just got injured before. He'll be fine (as will the Nat's - stupid contract for Werth aside, they are playing to win...)

They needed to work on his mechanics instead of focusing on the hype.

Wow your making it seem like he is the biggest ass on earth. All I've really heard is he's kinda got an ego... you know who else has an ego about every huge star athlete and every single 18-19 year old kid, cut him some slack if he's good enough to make the squad more power to him and I look forward to seeing what all the fuss is about with him.

That's what I'm saying the kid would have got hurt in the minors or majors... doesn't matter. At least the Nats know with his limited stuff that he definately has the goods.

*limited time he definately has the stuff/goods

That is what the coneheads would have done.

its actually not a couple of rumors. it was shown in his one year of college ball when he taunted the other team after hitting a home run and contstantly tried to show up the umpire. reports have come from ceveral sources about his ego

He got thrown out of a championship game for arguing balls and strikes...

That's incredibly presumptuous. In bringing him up early the pressure was on for him to throw the heat. In the minors he had his fastball and a great curveball, but his changeup still needed plenty of work. Instead of letting him develop that third pitch in the minors, they brought him up with basically two pitches in his arsenal. That puts more work on the arm and demands more fastballs. I think that was the root cause of his injury, personally.
