Kobe: Yes, I 'broke' the offense

08:14 AM ET 01.04 | Given a do-over, Phil Jackson would have substituted something along the lines of "crank up" the offense, rather than saying Kobe Bryant had to go and "screw up" the offense in Sunday's loss. "I used the term screw it up, not in terms of being in error or a mistake, but crank it up another notch to try and get us back in ballgames," Jackson said. "That's our fourth-quarter action. That's how we win ballgames." ... Bryant, though, said the Lakers coach got it right the first time. "He was right," Bryant said. "I totally broke the offense, but I did it intentionally because I felt like we needed to get something started because what we were doing just wasn't working."

This is very disturbing news and Laker fans need to be concerned big time. It seems like whatever the Lakers do with their offense they still don't get tangible results. It's so bad Kobe had to take the whole Memphis team on by himself to make the score look respectable. What's more alarming is that Phil has admitted the offense is broken. What this means is that teams have figured out how to solve the triangle which is a problem squarely on Phil's shoulders and I suspect the reason is that unlike Greg Poppovich Phil Jackson hasn't changed his offense. After getting swept by Phoenix Pops smartened up and changed but Phil didn't have the foresight or humility to know that at some point his cryptic triangle will be broken. I can only hope he has something else in his sleeve cos it's clear the triangle is no longer getting the job done and I also hope it's not too late. It's been around for years so it was just a matter of time teams figured it out and that time has come. What you got old man?

My new years wish of getting Galo yanked from the starting line up came true. When he gets back he'll be a stellar bench player and they need to keep having him post up the small guards the blow by him on the other side of the court. If you watched the Knicks/Pacers game y'd know what I'm talking about. Collins walked past him several times for easy layups... his absence will definitely help with the overall defense. He's not a consistent shooter anyway so we won't miss him much on offense...

Funny Kobe didn't get that same hunch from him shooting and still seeing the same result.
Who cares?

i read that now dandummy will use turiaf at center and put amare back to power forward...glad to hear that ...but i get the feeling they will lose some and this will be blamed on turiaf being in the line up instead of them playing a good team

I know this will sound crazy but the Lakers don't have enough talent to compete......other than Kobe and cotton ball Pau (still soft).....who handles business for them. Fisher is a defensive liability......Artest is still high off winnin a championship and Bynum doesn't look like he wants to bear the pain anymore (knee still hurts).......they need a change......Kobe is gettin old !!!

bringing in a new player now will not help things unless such player already knows the the triangle offense. In this type of offense, bringing in a player this late into the season really isnt much of a help as he will be clueless as to whats going on and where he should be on the floor in relation to his teammates.. can't really see that helping at all.. they simply have to step it up and play with a sense of urgency in about a month or so. as long as they are ready by march/april. everthing will be fine.
