08:16 AM ET 01.05 | Tom Davis, the former head of the Congressional subcommittee made infamous by Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and Jose Canseco, has some sympathy for Rafael Palmeiro. "I believe that he didn't know he was taking steroids. I think he told the truth. We conducted an investigation and that was the conclusion our investigators came to." Ever since the positive test that led to a 10-game ban late in the 2005 season, Palmeiro has claimed that teammate Miguel Tejada gave him what he thought was a B-12 shot and not a vial of steroids.

Even if it was just a B-12 shot, why did he feel the need to take it? Considering how rampant steroid use was, wouldn't Palmeiro make sure he knew what he was taking? Dumb.

Not believable. Ex-congressmen should not be told to their face that politicians as a class are some of the biggest liars in our society, but here it is ok. If it wasn't for politics these guys would have to work for a living.

Under the circumstances it belies common sense a player would stick something into their body and not be 100% certain what it was.
I can understand why a player of that generation would use PEDS, few objected at the time, not the commisioner, ownership, player's union, or even the fans, a good portion of which now pontificate self righteously about it, even though it was quite obvious what was happening.
The unacceptable part is now that the jig is up, player after player denies knowingly taking if they are caught and none come forward to say what had happened. I'd have more sympathy for a player and the HofF if they were honest.
Using PEDS then is not the disgrace, blatantly lying about it now, like Palmeiro, Bonds, and Clemens so obviously are is. And the silence from the others is a disgrace as well.
