New Jersey captain on the block

08:26 AM ET 01.06 | The Devils may be ready to send their captain packing. Sources say the Jamie Langenbrunner auction is on in earnest, and the hammer may come down soon if Lou Lamoriello asks the Devils captain to waive his no-trade clause, and Langenbrunner submits. Those sources say that it may be sooner rather than later before the trades begin in this historic disaster of a Devils season, and that Langenbrunner is the player teams want most. It is believed that Los Angeles and San Jose are prime suitors for Langenbrunner, but that he may end up going to an Eastern contender, perhaps Washington or Pittsburgh, or even Boston -- if he waives his no-trade.

I would say anyone on the Devil's roster should be made available at this point.
Get as many picks and propects as the cupboard can hold

His 2.8M contract is now 1.4m prorated so he would be a cap friendly move for a lot of teams.
There is no way he resigns to that mess the Devils will def deal him.

He would look good in a Bruins uniform. Boston should make a play for him, they could ditch Paille (what a waste of a good pair of skates) and plug in Jamie and they would actually have someone filling that roster spot that could hit an open net.

I'd love to say something witty, maybe even humourous but that video of Al Davis is really creeping me out.

I just noticed Hedberg only signed a 1 year deal. Smart Moose.

January 6, 2011  09:17 AM ET

This is the exact kind of addition both the Kings and Sharks need. In fact, with the exception of the teams already out (Isles, NJ, Edm, etc.), every team should try to make a play on this guy. He hasn't been great this year but he's physical, CAN score, and tends to elevate his play in big games. If Durk's right about him only costing $1.4, I see no reason for there to not be 20 or so teams calling Uncle Lou right now. In fact, I hope my Wings pick him up, though I don't really see it happening.

Wouldn't even be surprised if Calgary made the play at him. He's worked well with Brent Sutter before and that team is in need of additional leadership and grit. Maybe Feaster can convince Lou to take Stajan back in return ha.

As Captains go, I bet John Smith wished he had this option.

He'd look good in a lot of uniforms. Grit and testicular fortitude personified.

Something that is lacking in Boston so far this year. they've show flashes of being tough to play against, but not with any consistency. Maybe a little veteran leadership would help.

No kidding. I agree, it'd be great to have him at the Garden.

It usually does.

I recall a pretty decent Islanders team not quite where they needed to be picking up a certain Butch Goring.

The rest as they say is history.

A lot of Devil fans are down on this guy because last year he feuded with Lemaire late and sulked through the end of the regular season and playoffs. Not me. He is a warrior and any playoff team would be happy with this guy on their second line. He plays physical, plays both ends of the ice and plays biggest on the big stage. Hope he comes back to the Devils after the season but I think he's ready to move on and get paid a little for what will be his last decent contract.

January 6, 2011  11:10 AM ET

Come to the Kings Jamie!

January 6, 2011  11:52 AM ET

Come back to Dallas bro.

The team has been listless and without any direction. It spread like a fast moving cancer. Out of respect for Martin Brodeur, who will come back next year for likely his final season, anyone can be moved.

Losing is one thing, but losing like they have has no justification. They remind me of several streaks the Rangers went through during those seven consecutive years they were out of the playoffs. I think specifically of the fourth and fifth years of that skein, including bringing in Eric Lindros from Philadelphia. There was no coordination, everyone was doing their own thing, and many games the team spent back on their heals. This is only one year, but changes can and should be made.
