08:38 AM ET 01.06 | The Blue Jackets are, according to reports, a beehive of activity. The Dispatch learned that defenseman Mike Commodore, upset at being a frequent healthy scratch the past two weeks, approached general manager Scott Howson late last week and requested a trade. Commodore, who is signed through the 2012-13 season with a salary cap hit of $3.75 million, will not be easy to trade. ... Sources around the NHL told The Dispatch yesterday that no general manager has been more active in pursuing a trade in recent days than Howson. Though he wouldn't comment publicly, Howson did acknowledge he's pursuing trades.

Whatever happened to this guy getting traded to the Oil for Souray? Was it Souray breaking his hand? If so, I think I heard he's back playing now, so why not pull the trigger? You're not going to get much better for a defenceman who can't make your everyday roster that's making #3.75 mil.

Maybe Howson could call Lulu and trade a Commadore for a Captain?

I think the Oil wanted more than just a one for one swap - I think they wanted a draft pick too... plus Souray's hand breaking, plus I think the feeling is Souray "could" be cancer in the dressing room.

Commodore was a great shut down guy in 08-09, but he has been the big, slow, plodding goof he looks like, the last 2 seasons.

They are going to have to take bad salary back to deal this guy with that cap hit.

That's be awfully one sided in CBJ's favour: more talent, lower salary, bigger impact on team. Plus I think Lou is shedding contracts these days, not picking up more overpriced talent.

Good points about Souray, but that's a bum rap. He wasn't a cancer in Mtl, so maybe it just wasn't the right fit in Edmonton is all. I think he should have another shot, and I think if Tambellini can swallow some pride he can get Howson to take Souray and the Oilers can get a serviceable NHL defenceman in return. Its bad contract for bad contract, with Commodore's slightly cheaper but Souray's upside higher.

Wouldn't even be too surprised to see some contenders try for Commodore. He made a couple trips to the Final in a row, and picked his game up in those playoffs. Guys who can up their game in the playoffs are a valuable commodity in this league. Thus why Toews gets tons of attention and Joe Thornton much less. Speaking of which, maybe the Sharks will take him on?

Like Samson, he's nothing without his hair.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for Commodore. ;)

truth is, I was very excited when he signed -
in 08-09 he was like the 25 min/night guy when he played for the Cup winning Canes team... solid D, and chipped in a little on O, no big bonehead plays..
Since then, it has been a series of injuries, miscues, and conditioning issues and he cannot seem to play up to that contract, so the natives have wanted him gone, and the coach wants him gone

When was the last time a Free Agent left his team for big money on a small market club and it worked out? And I don't mean re-signed, I mean left a team to go there.

Havlat in Minny has been neither great nor terrible, but otherwise, it seems like it never (or at least very rarely) works out. Never thought about it before, but it does seem odd. Maybe m y memory is playing tricks, but I can't think of any right now at all.

The only Captain you'd get for Commodore is Morgan

excellent point - it should be buyer beware

If Anaheim counts as small market, then I guess Selanne is an example, but the sun does tend to shine on every dog's hind at least once...

Fair enough...I can see why you're frustrated.
