Why Yankees won't sign Soriano

06:29 AM ET 01.08 | Rafael Soriano might be willing to join the Yankees in a setup role, but general manager Brian Cashman won't sacrifice the first-round draft pick the team would have to give up in order to sign the Type-A free agent. "I would have given up the draft pick for Cliff Lee, but not for anyone else," Cashman said yesterday. The Yankees have not brought in any high-profile players and now it seems they likely will not as they continue to wait on Andy Pettitte's retirement decision. Soriano, who saved 45 games for the Rays last year, would serve in an eighth-inning role in The Bronx, but Cashman made it clear he isn't going to mortgage future drafts to bring him in.

Come on FN, how hard is it to block ALL incoming from China? Hire a High School Junior and he/she will do it for you.

Why is anyone reporting on the Yankees? What have they done right lately?

QUOTE(#23):

Well, even though I'm a Sox fan, they did make it to the ALCS last season. And, if Pettitte returns, they have basically the same team coming back. So, I would think they are still a threat.

Let's see now... They still have AJ, Jeter is a year older, A-Rod is a year older and taking urine tests, Saint Mo is a year older, Jorge is a year older...

Same team - a year later. While they were declining, others around them were getting better. Boston would have been a threat to them - with 2010 players - if half their injured players got healthy.

They made their plans very public with an arrogance that only the Steinbrenners can achieve. And they failed just as publicly on their Plan A (Cliff) and Plan B (Crawford). Oops!

I guaranteed you that this isn't the 2011 that was in their master plans. Meanwhile, they couldn't fill up the seats in their brand new ballpark last year.

This is total garbage! SI and FN can go to hell!

I'll check my mail but that's it!

And what pra-tell first round drat pick is sitting on the Yankees bench besides Jeter in the last fifteen years that the Cashman wouldn't want a lock down bull pen and future closer?

Again, they are the Yankees. They are still a threat. How many games did they win last year? Cashman is usually pretty good about picking up pieces to make the team a little better, such as last year with Kerry Wood and Lance Berkman. As a Sox fan, I still respect the Yankees.

I agree....some of you fellow Sox fans need to tone down Yankee bashing here....both teams are proven winners and both should (and probably do) respect the other. The Yankees will be right in the mix as usual and win 92-97 games like they always do.

with 31 of the 43 comments being pure spam, I'd sure as hell like to know what #40 had to do to get deleted. Probably said gosh-darn or something. Can't have the impressionable youth seeing that, now.
