10:15 AM ET 01.09 | Why the delay in the Cowboys' officially promoting Jason Garrett? Scuttlebutt is Jerry Jones was waiting to see if Jeff Fisher was going to shake loose from the Titans. One of the reasons Jones moved when he did may have been that other teams were pressuring him to interview Garrett, and he could not prevent Garrett from interviewing without promoting him.

Morning......Enjoy the games yesterday??

What's with that photo of Jerry? He looks like he had some bad Mexican food.

Given the two personalities we're talking about, I don't think it would have worked out. Anybody know where Vince Young is headed, other than the unemployment line?

January 9, 2011  10:20 AM ET

What else was Garret going to have to do to prove he was ready?? There cannot be a huge line of qualified candidates that want to work for this egomaniac.

Sorry for your loss Dak.......There's always next year...

Doesn't Jerry have to conduct some sham interviews to "comply" with the Rooney rule before he can name Garrett his head coach?

Thanks for the condolences, but I'm Stuart!

Yes and he did.

Rooney Rule is stupid and needs to go...

Dak's "loss" came much, much earlier in the season. Shortly after mine.

I agree 100% about your assessment of the Rooney Rule. I mean, what the hell does that old guy from 60 Minutes have to do with football? Sounds stupid to me too.

Like many things, it's a rule that has outlived its usefulness. It doesn't actually accomplish anything because teams only have to bring someone in who they have no intention of hiring to comply with the rule.

I was wondering if the Vikings "had" to interview a fat white guy? Just sayin'.

Word is that Seattle has offered a seventh round pick for VY and that the Vikings have made some contact as well.

That's one of the sillier aspects of the rule. The Vikes trashed their coach midstream, put in Frazier as their interim guy. Once it appeared like he was the guy for the job, they could just make him the head coach without any further machinations. The Cowboys were in the exact same boat, but had to take the extra step.

And... if I were a minority and knew I was going to be the token candidate, why the hell would I want that interview? 'Cause it would look good on my resume?
