Hancock: BCS 'works so well,' no place for Cuban

08:59 AM ET 01.10 | Considering the source, one would imagine Bill Hancock standing up for his enterprise in a recent Q & A. Q: Dallas Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban is proposing to fund a 12- or 16-team playoff with higher seeds getting home-field advantage. Do you think this will gain any traction? Hancock: "I don't think any amount of financial inducement will make people abandon something that works so well. This is college athletics, not professional. The traditional multi-day bowl celebrations at the end the season are unique and cherished in the collegiate model and would be irrevocably damaged if Mr. Cuban's concept were implemented."

I hate Mark Cuban.

That being said, I hope he embarrasses these arrogant pr*cks as publicly as possible.

Agreed.

Cuban is all about messing with the status quo.

Morn' AO...but you have an excuse...you have to work! I'm just an old retired geeezer...at least according to my kids/grandkids.

You know I really don't understand the BS that the BCS always throws out there about messing with the existing bowls and how it would do away with them. At this point there is only one bowl that really matters, that is the BCS championship. You can take the existing BCS bowls and make them part of the playoff. The other bowls can still go on as they always have. They really didn't mean anything except for the teams that play in them anyway, no different with a playoff, except you actually will have more bowl games that mean something. Kind of tired of the good ol' boy network, status quo, when it comes to the BCS.

Exactly! Hancock always takes an all or nothing stance on the bowls, but it wouldn't be that at all with a playoff. With an 8-team playoff using the big 4 bowls plus the cotton, gator and whatever, plus the other bowls still pairing non-playoff teams, you might actually get the best post-season in all of sports. Hancock's ongoing lies/outright BS is just designed to divert the fans from the facts. For such an allegedly nice guy, Hancock sure does live up to the last part of his name.

Dear Mr. Bill Handjob,Rather than falling on the old company talking points why not try asking the fans. I'd bet you won't like the real answer. The current system sucks big green donkey **** and you know it. Any type of playoff would/could be implemented to maintain the multi bowl crap you talk about. I didn't hear you screaming about the end of the Cotton Bowl when it was moved from Jan. 1st.Signed,The people who actually watch the games and pay the money

Got some good stuff this week, Hippy?

January 10, 2011  01:13 PM ET

The BCS is also contradictory about what they say, one of the big issues they bring up is that they didn't want a playoff to extend the playing season, but yet look at when the BCS games are played now, they have stretched them out to where now the Championship game is 10 days later from when all the big games used to be played on the 1st. As I said in a previous post this a just a good ol' boy network with all the top school Presidents not wanted to share, it's just ridiculous and frustrating for fans.

Not an Auburn fan, but where are the people who greeted the AD's plane after he hired Chizek? Wonder if their Auburn buddies are piling on them now?
