Rutgers coach Fred Hill really is planning for the future. The Scarlet Knights have received a verbal commitment from Maiscei Grier, a freshman from Arbor View High School in Las Vegas. His father is Marshall Grier, who played for Hill at Rider after he transferred from Penn State, where he played for Hill's uncle, Brian Hill.

That's right. Get em early! Jerzy all day!

14... wow... it is amazing how young than can commit. They can change their mind until their senior year but this an athletic program working for the future.

I hope they don't screw this kid up.

First thing they need to teach him is to cheer, not boo, service academies, e.g., Navy, Air Force, Army, when those come to play against Rutgers, like the **** Rutgers fans did this year against Navy. Must be the Jersey air that makes people retarded down there.

Eagle 1 pretty much covered everything.

November 1, 2007  12:54 PM ET

This is a bad idea. Kids shouldn't have to think about this stuff until their senior year.

November 1, 2007  01:07 PM ET

junior year, senior year is pretty late a lot of ppl wanna get it out of the way but wat if the player doesn't turn out to be the player they expect, wat does rutgers do then

November 1, 2007  01:07 PM ET

I agree George W.

I would hope the Academic program he is interested in was a priority because this doesnt sound like an educated descision. Remember its a school not a Basketball program.

The kid is 14 nothing changes during puberty. Rutgers better offer any potential Girlfriends a scholarship also so he doesn't decide to follow her.

welp

November 1, 2007  01:49 PM ET

A verbal committment. BFD. A lot can change in 4 years.

November 1, 2007  02:31 PM ET

Yeah in 4 years there's no telling what this kid is liable to steal, sell, and get pregnant.

November 1, 2007  02:35 PM ET

They verbally commit their junior year and then can sign after Nov. 14th their senior year. The fact a 14 year old kid likes a college and dreams of playing; means nothing until he has stayed healthy, got the grades and stayed out of trouble. The odds of him choosing them in 3 years is low; could happen but leave him only and let him enjoy and develop.

November 1, 2007  11:33 PM ET

rutgers sucks.

November 2, 2007  12:05 AM ET

This isn't cool. This shouldn't even be on his radar screen, I fault the kids parents.

They should start getting some respect as a good Football school!
