Oregon comes up small

08:26 AM ET 01.11 | As fun as the Ducks were to watch at times this season, they were exposed against a team whose quarterback was bigger than everyone on their defense. Oregon needs more size. It needs bruisers. It needs defensive tackles that cause the opposing coordinators to lose sleep, and offensive tackles that make running backs slumber like babies the night before a big game like this. Cam Newton is a large quarterback, but there's no way he should outweigh every Ducks defensive player, and he did just that on Monday. The Ducks were not physical enough.

Their players might be undersized, but their coach isn't.

BTW-not physical enough? Newton could barely move last night and it seemed that most of the physical play by AU came after the whistle! The guy with the knee shot should have been thrown out of the game.

Actually it was a pretty good game last night. Auburn played great defense in the red zone and that was the difference in the game. Give Auburn credit, they were prepared for Oregon.
At least in wasn't a blowout. Very strange that Oregon outscored Auburn in the second half.

No doubt UO came to play. Game was closer than it should have been, IMO. Cam was uncharacteristically off. Missed some easy 6s, and Jeesum Crow were there some drops.
Both teams looked pretty tight, really. Why the F*(# didn't Kelley take more shots down field?

Good question since the one time they did was from their own endzone and went for 81 yards. I kept waiting and waiting for the next shot but.........

two things had huge ramifications on the game:
1) the non-interception that was an interception (complete fore-arm landing inbounds before any part of his body landed out of bounds, had complete control of the ball); the very next play was an AU touchdown. This is completely open for debate....but IMO it should have been an interception (and I am not a ducks or a pac 10 fan).
2) on fourth & goal, in such a tight game the ducks should have taken the three points.

It was a crucial play but overall I thought the zebras were outstanding last night considering what we have been seeing in the bowl games.

I agree. Solid officiating. They seemed to keep the hanky in their pocket on infractions that didn't have an effect on the outcome of a play. As a recovering ref, I like that approach.
The "knee" play was a good call. As painful as it is for Ducks around the world, the dude wasn't down...

FAMURATTLER, I agree it was a pretty good game and "Hats off to Auburn". As you said it wasn't a blowout. The difference was the great defense that Auburn played in the red zone.

IMHO both pass defenses from AU and OU are suspect but neither really exploited the other consistently...which begs the question, how would Andy Dalton have done against them? (I am assuming the TCU receivers could have stayed on their feet but they were all slipping around last night.)

I think that, aside from the field being slippery, both teams showed a lot of nervousness being on the big stage.
So how would TCU and Dalton have done? Would they have also been that nervous seeing as they would be playing for the NC?
A lot of dropped balls on both sides, but also some great catches and some well defended pass plays on both sides....
