Rangers' trade motivation twofold

08:42 AM ET 01.11 | Glen Sather almost made it sound like an organizational no-brainer on two fronts. By trading veteran defenseman Michal Rozsival to Phoenix for 24-year-old forward Wojtek Wolski, the Blueshirts not only found a replacement for Alex Frolov, who was lost for the season with a knee injury in Saturday's 2-1 win over St. Louis, but also opened up more playing time for the organization's group of young defensemen. "We've been trying to build this team around the youth," Sather said. "And when a player like this, who's 24 years old, who's 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds and has been a very good, prolific goal scorer in the past [comes along], and you're moving a guy that's 32-years-old with this year and next year left on his contract, it was a good opportunity for us to get younger and bigger, and give the kids the opportunity in defense to play."

Is Slats on new medication? This trade actually makes sense.

A lot of sense. He's taken a lot of heat in the past (and rightfully, so), but if you aren't somewhat giddy about this trade, there is no help for you.

It's a good trade for both sides. Let's just hope it pans out that way.

Now he can adapt to his new role as Avery's set up man.

No kidding...Dolan had better look for the pod under Sather's desk

Hey now, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Although at a first glance this looks like a good move, I'm not so sure. Clearing cap space is always good, and Rosie isn't getting any younger but he also took a lot of undeserved heat and was one of the better defenseman on the Rangers team, and god knows they need some veteran presence in their back end. Him they traded for a guy that's done 16 points through half the season and is -6. There's no denying Wolski got talent and if Torts can get 20+ goals out of him then it's all good, but I smell another Zherdev/Frolov bust here.

Is it still spam if the spammers comment on a NY thread?
Good trade.

That's good. But I could just imagine the conversation the aliens had first.

"Zxork you have be Sather again."

"Aw why me, let Vyrrj be Sather this time."

I agree. I think my fellow Rangers' fans were too hard on Rosival. He played in all situations and while not the best D-man, he was better than he was treated

Remember many Ranger fans were calling Sather great for making that Zherdev trade. This is the third trade for Wolski in a year....just makes you wonder.

LOL- That is probably the real reason they did the deal Hank.

By "set up" W2 I think Hank meant he'd spread out a beach towel for Avery to turtle on.

Rangers are getting a good player in Wolski. I hated to see him traded from the Avs, especially since Mueller isn't a sure thing to come back from his concussion issues. Wolski can be good for 15-20 goals a season in the right system.
