08:30 AM ET 01.13 | Before hiring Brady Hoke, Michigan contacted the agent for Missouri Coach Gary Pinkel about interviewing for the job. "After careful thought, Gary chose not to take the interview," Pinkel's agent, John Caponigro, confirmed Wednesday. Pinkel and Michigan representatives had initially arranged a meeting to discuss the position during this week's American Football Coaches Association Convention in Dallas, but Pinkel changed his mind after doing what he described as "some soul searching," team spokesman Chad Moller said. "He thought long and hard about all that he's built here and decided to cancel the meeting," Moller said. Pinkel, 58, is under contract at Missouri through 2015.

According to Michigan fans coach Hoke was the only coach they went after, first and only choice.
Right ?

January 13, 2011  09:19 AM ET

Obviously the allure of coaching at such a historic venue has lost a bit of its luster.

He has it made at Missouri. He can go 8-5 to 10-3 every year and never be in trouble of losing his job. I'd take that kind of security myself.

Wrong. It was pretty clear they reached out to Harbaugh in some fashion. Pinkel looks like the dude from All American Dad

Agreed. Why go from a no-pressure situation that you've created to a pressure cooker? I'll gladly take the Michigan job if Hoke fails though :)

Gotta get this story out to save face of the institution, and more importantly, the AD.

Ah, but there is where you are wrong my friend, this horse has only begun to be beaten (reference Brett Favre posts in NFL T&R) this issue should drag on into next season before the horse is truly dead or Michigan stops the run.
